By the way, how do we know that the Suns offer was the one which was "pulled" couple days ago?
Has someone actually reported that or is it just speculation?

Mostly rumored but I've also seen some writers saying it was the Suns offer that was pulled.

If its true and you read between the lines on what vlade said about agents messing that deal up it certainly could have been a case where cousins agent made it known to the suns he didn't want to come here. And if that was the case it was absolutely the right move to pull out. The last thing you want is a pouting cousins thats a recipe for disaster.
Its not that far fetched because even with the bledsoe connection the suns still have the second worst record in the league and have a bunch of really young dudes and boogie might want more immediate success.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Re: The Boogie Watch
In the end all McD had to do was add a future first or replace Knight with Bender or Chriss. And he should have done it and he didnt. **** Gambos column, **** the doubters, Suns would have still had assets to go all in on another all star AND still had cap space. McD whiffed and he should be fired for it. BUT he needs to stay to draft this summer. Lol

If i had to guess, Sac jumped the gun on trading Cousins and panicked. Nothing we could do about a panic move. Who the hell could have predicted that the deadline for Cousins was the end of the All-Star game.
There was a rumor from Ray Ray that the suns were exploring Knight for Green. I would have thrown our 2017 2nd in the move....then used Green as that expiring to make a Cousins trade happen.
And with the clock against us, it would have been impossible to orchestrate that before Sac folded.
Additionally, the fact that Sac was not returning ANY phone calls makes me think that we could have had a different deal in place, but were not given a chance to explore it with Sac.

Damn, he really loved Sacramento. He's not a great role model by any means, but the kings didn't deserve DMC. I hope he does well with the pels.

Wrong. All of it imo. What makes you think the Kings accept it if that happens? The offer was already objectively better. The only reason Cousins isn't in a Suns uniform is due to the owner of the Kings having a man-crush on Nik Stauskas 2.0.

Also, for those lamenting Boogie, you should root against NO. If they don't make the playoffs I don't think he re-signs there. And while I was against trading for him unless it was a bargain, I am all for signing him. The risk is much lower when you aren't giving up a ton of assets for the right to pay a guy market value.

It's a double-edged sword right now. I'm a huge Boogie fan, and I want to root for him to do well with the Pelicans. If he does well though, then he is obviously going to stay there. This would prove to all the haters that he can be effective when given the right system and right pieces around, something Sacramento has failed at. Now if the Pelicans sucks, and he is interested in signing with us, everyone is going to just say he's a career loser and they don't want him.

Re: The Boogie Watch
I do think it's plausible that Cousins + additional "star" was McD's plan A, but that nothing could be done to shake Vivek from his unreason. "We didn't want to break up our core" may be true, but it also sounds like a PR response created in a lab.
I just can't get down about this. Watching bad basketball sucks, but there's absolutely nothing better than drafting the players that make you a champion. Those players become your players; they become part of your team's legacy. It is, for us, the best case scenario.
My bigger worry here is that I speculate that part of the reason we were okay giving up our pick is that we're simply not that impressed with this draft class. How much better are these point guards likely to be than Eric Bledsoe? Is drafting a PG or an SF the best idea with Bled and TJ on the roster? How high are the ceilings of the top players in this draft, really?
Now for a Deadline Daydream...
As we all saw, the Sixers won big with yesterday's trade. SAC/PHI '17, LAL '17/'18, and SAC '19. And for all we know, our plan A just fell through. With Boogie no longer an option, does this increase the likelihood of Eric being shopped? I ask primarily because if I were the Sixers, I'd be at least curious as to what my stockpile of picks could net me in trade. Why not balance it out with some talented vets? No downside to shooting for the playoffs this year with the Kings going the other direction. If they're looking at PG, no better player than Eric is available. In fact, if he were available, Eric would be the second best player currently on the market. If they're looking for solid veteran leadership to replace bad contracts, Tyson and Dudley fit that bill, too. Given our relative cap positions, just about any deal between us would work.
Eric and Tyson to Philly for Bayless, Rodriguez, Henderson, SAC '19 and LAL '17/'18? Is there any combination of vets or contract/pick swaps that gets us there? IDK, but if we are going the youth route, that would be the move. Looking at it from Philly's perspective - I imagine that deal would put them in a position to make a move to the playoff this year, add the Kings lotto pick this season, and then add free agents on top of that. They could be contending in as little as a year.
I'd love that for us. I'd like it for them, too. Obviously, Knight can be thrown in if that's what they would like. With Knight, Tucker, Dudley, Barbosa, Noel, Holmes and Okafor all at their disposal, I'm sure they could find an additional first or two to to throw into their coffers as well.

Your offer for me was better, even without Bender or Chriss, just Knight, Warren, an unprotected 2017 1st, a 2nd and some filler, is a better haul than what they got.

Boogie is from Mobile, roughly a 2 hours drive away from NO, they can offer him an extra year a 40m$ more than anybody he already lost 30m$ with this move, unless everything goes wild, and who knows it might, with Davis and Holiday (they share agents btw) I can't see how Cousins leaves.
He isnt only from Mobile, Alabama, he just loves his hometown to death, been that close to home is gonna be a big deal for him, can't imagine him leaving honestly.
Holiday this summer is more interesting and maybe even more crucial because they have no shot at getting a similar level PG with the money they have tied already, they gonna need to pay him up.
Big problem here is the injuries, they are god awful in that department, rumor has it that tehey treat NBA players like NFL players, same owner as the Saints owner and they even share some employees, which is nuts, and Holiday, Davis and Cousins aren't precisely injury-free.

Re: The Boogie Watch
Yeah, nailing the draft now seems the best way to assemble a great roster.
I wanted Boogie here but it looked like Divac pushed too hard and we didnt call his bluff.
Lucky Pelicans.

Hate to be the guy that brings this up, but Im willing to bet that if we had the Laker pick instead of Knight in the package, Cousins would be in a Suns uniform right now

That could absolutely be the case and it would mean the Suns 100% did the right thing, The truth is we don't know if maybe Boogie's people told the same thing to NO but Dell Demps still thought it was worth the risk.
I do however think Boogie is emotional (as seen by how much to loved Sac) and once he gets used to playing next to AD he will be very happy. Same would have happened in Phoenix too. He might not have wanted changed, but in the end I think he will be happy for it to have happened.

Re: The Boogie Watch
Here's a serious question, when do Suns fans have an expectation of making the playoffs? Forget competing for a title for a second, just competing for a playoff spot. This team is about to be seven years since and it doesn't look like that is changing anytime soon, especially if this move makes New Orleans a sure-fire playoff team.
When it comes time to pay these young players, will they just have to rebuild again?

I think 2 years from now is realistic. Next year is an outside possibility. Young players will grow, the team still has its own picks and a couple from Miami. No contracts that will hurt the team (aside from Knight maybe). Plenty of cash to throw at worthy free agents. Internal growth is key.
