I like Ivan Rabb, rated #14 right now on DX (I go by a 12-17 range--guys can slide or rise).
About a month ago. Good value for that pick. However...
...if this guy is somehow still on the board at that hypothetical #15, I think Riley takes him and slides him next to Whiteside.
I came in to say "No way Lauri is still there when we draft, unless he crashes to Earth in the next month, or has a season ending injury.", but after thinking it through there is a real chance he is. His range is quite wide, as he could be taken as early as 7th (I don't think he leaps over Tatum & Isaac, unless he has a huge Tourney), but as late as 14th. There are lots of guard/wing deficient teams in that 7-14 range & Monk, Ntilikana, Fox, Bridges will have strong interest. Then when you get to bigs Williams is bouncing up a lot of boards and Giles has fallen to this range & will be a super tempting high-reward gamble this deep. That's without anyone unexpected having a huge Toruney, or someone reaching (which always happens in the late lotto).
Markkanen is the player who fits best with the current group we have, and after the top 4 of Fultz, Ball, Smith, JJ is possibly one of the best fits for our current group. Isaac is the other top fit, but I like Markkanen's size , and think it would enable him to play some C in a smaller line-up when Whiteside goes out & JJ comes in.
I would love to somehow make the PO and be able to walk away with Markkanen, that would be a great finish to the season. If we could then lock up Mion, JJ & Reed, plus add a starter/6th-man level piece then we'd be pretty much rebuilt and into the hunt for HCA next year. Ultimately not a title team, unless one or more of Markkanen/Winslow/Richardson reaches their ceiling, but entertaining and only a good trade away from being that contender.
