Build a Team Around Jokic

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Tue Feb 21, 2017 2:03 pm

How do the Nuggets build a team around Jokic?

Jokic/Plumlee
Cornelie/Hernangomez/Faried/Arthur - at least one should go
Gallinari/Chandler - really need someone else here & one should go
Harris/Barton/Beasley
Murray/Mudiay/Nelson

Forward seems to be our greatest need/most questions

I'd like to see us move on from Gallo, insert Chandler into the starting lineup, and draft or trade for young talent at SF.

They say they are shopping chandler/Gallinari for a 1st and a pick swap.

That would be good value I think. Build a young nucleus around jokic/Murray rather than capping themselves out resigning Gallo.

I'm really high on Hernangomez. He's got range, mobility, and rebounding prowess I think he pairs perfectly with Jokic/Plumlee.

With the current roster? Jokic-Gallinari-Chandler-Harris-Murray (bench in order Barton, Faried, Nelson, Plumlee, JH, Mudiay, Arthur) give up the defense and run like crazy.

In the future, I don't know the names, I only know the style he needs:
C: Jokic
PF: Rim-protector and decent 3p shooter (ex: Ibaka)
SF: 3D (ex: Porter)
SG: Harris
PG: 40+% 3points shooter and play off the ball (ex: Dragic)
6M: 4-stretch capable of iso-scoring (ex: Gallinari-Mirotic)

No Murray in the future? Wow! Most people, Denver fans & media alike, have our two best players for our future as Jokic & Murray.

He is probably/surely in Denver's future but, like I said, those are only type of player that fit perfectly with Jokic.
I wrote Harris in SG only because he is perfect - good shooter, good defender (even if this year he has some problem), good cutter - with Jokic's style and he is already in the roster otherwise I wuold have pick K.Thompson like example of player.

p.s IMO our two best players for our future are Jokic & Harris, Murray could be the third but he needs to prove himself in the NBA on daily basis to be the core of a championship team.

Murray is still so young. You are correct that he needs to be more consistent but he's actually exceeded my expectations so far. He has talent and works extremely hard. Let him and Jokic build chemistry over the years. I believe he will be a star.

I think Murray could well be the type of PG you are looking for; deadeye shooter that doesn't always need the ball to be effective.

Trade Gallo and Nelson for Brewer, Nene, and Dekker
trade Faried for future picks

Murray/ Mudiay/
Harris/ Barton/ Beasley
Chandler/ Dekker/ Brewer
Arthur/ Hernan-Gomez/ Chandler
Jokic/ Plumlee/ Nene/

Gives you a PG that can create for himself and others while also comfortable playing off the ball, Harris is a great fit with both Jokic and Murray. Chandler and Arthur are both good defenders when focused, and can spot up and shot. Leaves a bench with Barton and Mudiay taking turns slashing with 2 good outside shooters and a pick and roll big.

I like that - loads!
I'd like to see a 3rd PG, but there are plenty of those available. (Not so many 1st & 2nd PGs available.)
Still love Barton, but think he belongs with the pre-2017 Nuggets. The Nuggets' current style of play isn't his best.
Chandler with Dekker behind him is perfect - for now.
Arthur with Hernangomez behind him isn't perfect, but it's very good - for now.
Nene as a 3rd option at center is nice, especially if Plumlee plays much PF. Not sure Nene will like it though. But he's a good team player.

In less than 24 hours the Nuggets will be either making a course correction or standing pat. Wilson Chandler looks to be the bait with Gallo still in the running. Don't think they will trade both, so that's a factor in guessing what kind of a team the FO is trying to put around Jokic. Their guess is as good as mine. I'll assume its Chandler that goes and I couldn't hazard a guess at who might be coming back besides a pick.

C Jokic, Plumlee

PF Faried, Arthur, Hernangomez

SF Gallo, (minutes for Hernangomez), Barton

SG Harris, Murray, Beasley

PG Mudiay, Nelson

All above depends on whether the "back" situation of Mudiay can be resolved.
Canned in Denver.
