Here's hoping they have the nerve to make Jimmy Butler their prize.
If the Celtics make that move, LeBron James' unshakable hold on the Eastern Conference might finally loosen. Butler to the Celtics is a big enough deal—with legit NBA Finals ramifications—to put in perspective the relatively inconsequential move of DeMarcus Cousins from one mediocre team in Sacramento to another in New Orleans.
The Celtics have reservations, according to league sources, about adding Butler after how wonderfully the Isaiah Thomas emergence has gone. There is valid reason for concern, because Thomas is reveling in his top-dog status.
This is exactly the problem I have with Isiah. It's as if being "great" is more important than rings. His poor shot selection in close games prove this. A championship player doesnt pull up for threes in double and triple coverage in close games.

Someone smarter than me has to reconcile that. It maybe that the rest of the Pistons starters are just that much worse and there is some evidence to that.
sully, I think the issue is that those bbref numbers you are citing are an almost archaic calculation of Dean Oliver's INDIVIDUAL O and D Ratings rather than team O and D Ratings. They are based off of solely box score stats outside of +/-. OBPM and DBPM are better measures if you want to do a box score analysis only IMO, but DBPM is still pretty poor at understanding/projecting D. Drummond's raw production looks the same, but his straight up on/off and team numbers look brutal this year. The stats that try to adjust for that look very bad for Drummond this season. That could just be noisy data if Drummond is the same exact player and the team just incidentally happens to be struggling around him or there could be something to it. I'd personally trust the multiyear over it, but it is enough of a red flag for me to not give a BKN for him.

Smart move by the Lakers. Magic Johnson will be pretty good at getting FAs to come to LA. Recruiting trips will consist of guys getting off the plane and going straight to the Playboy mansion grotto.

Magic Johnson was a phenomenal player. I would be shocked if he's not a below average decision maker as a GM. Listening him on the ESPN show, I've never got an impression that he's a deep level thinker when it comes to basketball.
Only thing he can bring to the Lakers is influence. He's a successful businessman with ties everywhere. I'm pretty sure he's connected to agencies and that he'll do stuff in the grey area when it comes to free agents. Paul George is my pick for their big free agent signing.

The guy was crying last year after they got bounced in the 1st round by the Hawks. Don't tell me that Isaiah doesn't want to win. He's fully embraced the Celtics culture, and is quite aware that he won't mean **** unless he wins a ring.

I don't even know what the source of that is, but I seriously doubt it and the take following it is hilariously out of touch.

Maybe its just because of rumors. But Vegas knows something is going on. They ALWAYS know.

Didn't say he doesn't want to win. His shot selection is questionable at times. Im just making a guess, based off his clear joy in being a star. I like him, I just dont think he's the guy to build a title roster around

Was gonna ask...do they? Why would odds go from 1600 to 1000 if they didnt know of a trade? Hmm

Pistons fan here: George isn't on the market, because Bird isn't dumb. B. Lopez doesn't move the needle for what the C's need, a strong rebounding center. Butler isn't being traded per the Bull's latest press release (and I'm not sure he'd have been your best option anyway). So, Drummond is the lone guy on the market who fits your needs - "bigly". Are you willing to pay an expensive price for him? Gotta include Zizac in any package, plus the Brooklyn pick this year, or other guys you'd really rather not lose if you give up the Brooklyn pick next year instead?

I'm not a big gambler, so I have no clue if this is true, however....
