IDK, maybe it'll work out, but it just seems weird to me to have an Agent as a GM.

I'm sure Warriors fans said the same thing.

Pelinka reportedly has one of the best player-agent relationships in the game.

This is a good move, at face value. We'll see how he is. Can it really be any worse than now?

It is bazare.
Tellem has been working for the Pistons front office.
Olshey is someone I would have wanted.

Hmmm... If true, that was pretty fast. Only way they get something done this quick is if it was already planned out beforehand.

If so, better get on those phones Rob! Clocks running on that trade deadline.

how does an agent even put aside conflicts of interest in this situation?

Olshey would've been a solid pick up.

from management point of view. yes, this has probably been in the works for quite a while already. they arent just going to make surprise moves. im sure they had several candidates.

im glad we went with someone with that kind of caliber.

Really ushers in the new era.

Connections, relationships, a network are the key asset in many industries, not just basketball. It's Pelinka's professional and social network that immediately appreciates the Lakers management's standing around the league.

Reports earlier were that the Lakers front office lacked the savvy in brokering deals.

That's over now.

Pelinka would know all the back channels, and would know how to navigate them to explore and get deals done, especially in the hush-hush, wink-wink way.

Still, I'd like to see more analysts and quants and seasoned basketball minds in the day-to-day workings of the front office. Still behind in that respect.

Both Myers and Pelinka worked for Tellem... In fact they were both convinced to become agents by him.

They also both played college Basketball, but I think Pelinka had the more impressive career, so that's something at least.

I do like Pelinka... I think he's helped us get some talent over the years... So I don't hate the deal...

It would have been nice to bring him in under a guy like Mitch or someone for a year as an assistant though, like GSW did with Myers... But at least it puts someone that won't be afraid to tell Magic to pound sand in a position of power.

I don't know why but this feels a lot like hiring a day to day caretaker to make calls and do the dirty work Magic doesn't want to do. Kind of like a Steve Mills to Phil. I hope Pelinka has more spine to assert his authority.
