Geez even a mod made a troll-like back-handed compliment.

Our team as it stands without Jason Kendall is playing better than the Brewers. Every "expert" has no doubt the Cubs can catch the Brewers. Having said that we now have replaced our sub .200 catcher with one who is hitting better than that.

I would call that an improvement.

Oh yeah and we gave up Ronnie Woo Woo to get him!

...and when he hits around .300 the rest of the season to average out his year-long BA to about .270 than you can come back here and troll some more.

Do you know who is on the A's roster? Well nobody is the answer. Everybody is having a slump like year. Maybe Shannon Stweret is ok but still...

The cubs lineup is a little different. Kendall will see pitches he hasn't seen since he was in Pittsburgh, prolly better. At its worse he hits .250-.260 the rest of the way with an on base % of .350

I'll take that anyday for an 8th hole batter.

Oh yea and the catcher is a defensive position, and Kendall calls a fine game. What an addition to a great pitching staff.

and to add...

For a power team we didn't hit a homerun in 10 games. Oh but we're still winning.

ChicagoSports.com wrote:As they say when they're introducing the cast, hold your applause until the end on the Jason Kendall trade.

Kendall, acquired by the Cubs on Monday night from Oakland, has a great pedigree, impressive career numbers and more name recognition than Koyie Hill, Rob Bowen and Geovany Soto. But he also has a .226 batting average, a .261 on-base percentage and a 20 percent ratio throwing out base stealers.

Kendall will not be confused for a display at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, but he is 33, which makes him close to early retirement in catching years. Put it all together and this is a dubious acquisition for a contender. At least it's likely to be billed that way by the statistical analysts and the Rotisserie League guys.

But I say the Cubs will be a better team Tuesday night, with Kendall in uniform, than they were Monday night, when they rallied in the eighth inning to win for the 16th time in their last 20 games. That's because I trust the opinion of their scouts, Gary Hughes in particular.

Trust Cubs' scouts: Kendall deal will work

I am excited about seeing Jason in a Cub uniform tonight. I was a big fan of him in 2000 when he had a great season.

Can anybody say "Moneyball"?

It's a smart move for the Cubs though. Vet catcher + hitting = good news all around.
