Re: It's Time: Grade the Trade
I've always wanted to get GIbson. Solid dude, good defender, a fighter. Hopefully we can keep him long-term at a reasonable price. Maybe he'd extend?
DMD is tricky. His shooting numbers look very good (great in comparison to the rest of the team), but advanced stats don't exactly love him.
If we managed to add two NBA level players while giving up 3 guys who weren't (for us), I'm happy.

Re: It's Time: Grade the Trade
I felt like this was a trade we should have done when KD was here prior to him leaving. I like the trade though, Gibson is a solid defender and rebounder, can hit the mid-range. Doug sounds like he can fit in well and space the floor for us.
Sad to see Payne and Morrow go, more specifically Morrow. I always liked him during the 2014-15 season for us then he got put in the doghouse and never returned.

Re: It's Time: Grade the Trade
I was never a big Payne fan. Taj is having an amazing year, I love the identity this team has right now, no softness. Doug is going to be put in to a perfect situation too.
I don't know how it's going to look longterm but OKC finally feels like a complete basketball team.

B+
Want to see how we use this last roster spot now, because I really don't want to see Semaj getting full backup minutes the rest of the season. Think Taj will slot in really well with the starting lineup, and gives Russ a good pick and pop option.
Iffy on McDermott, but as long as he doesn't pull a Singler and forget how to play basketball now that he's joined us, he should fit in well off the bench.
That Chicago 2018 2nd rounder is an underrated throw in. If that has no protection on it, and they trade Butler to Boston in the summer, then that could be in the 31-35 range.

Just an FYI, as a Bulls fan Gibson is hustle and low post moves. Doesn't pass out of double teams well, so that will be interesting with Russ. Doug can flat out score. With Russ driving and kicking it will work well for OKC. Shooters need the ball on time and Wade n Butler deliver it 2 seconds late. Great job on this deal. As a Bulls fan I can't believe we got fleeced so hard.

Thanks, I really still think Cam's got a future and think he's gonna do well for you guys too.

And it's important to make sure your trade partner does not feel cheated so they will trade with you again in the future.

Just realized now having 3 top 100 players in ORB percentage with Taj, Steven, and Enes.

I want to believe. Taj is most likely gone after the season as was Morrow and Joffrey anyway so I feel you really grade this as Payne versus Doug and the second. I think we came out slightly ahead. Doug is just okay. Better than Cam but he's also 3 years older. The second round pick is something at least ( Sam is sort of overdue to find someone useful in the second).
All in all I give it a B.

Or screw them so badly that their GM is fired before next years trade deadline. I've got my eye on you, Hennigan.

That.... doesn't sound impressive

That's what I was thinking but I was giving bondom the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it's a typo? Are all three in the top 10 in ORB%?

Nope, 100 (well 91). 463 players total, it's not bad. Sounded better in my head

Re: It's Time: Grade the Trade
A+ because we gave almost nothing and won a second round pick in return. Mcdermott is the kind of player we need in OKC and he has more chances of success than Cam has so It's a great deal ( even if Mcdermott is far from being relevant in the NBA right now).
Taj will be great with both Adams and Kanter, while we have 3 years to find out if Mcdermott is going to worth it.
Morrow was just a great teammate but was playing terribly, Lauvergne was pretty decent but lacked defense and Cam has more chances of being a bust than Mcdermott ( still wish him to play well again).

You guys got my two favorite players on the Bulls, so OKC has suddenly become my second favorite team in the NBA. I'll be watching all the Thunder games on league pass from now on. Gibson is outstanding, both on the court and off.
McD is underrated and was underused on the Bulls -- the guy can flat out score from anywhere on the court -- I think you'll be very pleased with him. Here's highlights from game last month:

Re: It's Time: Grade the Trade
I was upset at first when I heard Roberson was involved possibly, but bringing in shooting and lane protection for Cam brought this deal up to a B once I realized we were keeping our best defensive player. I'd have given it an A if Mirotic was involved.

Re: It's Time: Grade the Trade
Give it a solid B. You take on Gibson who is 31 and is pretty much an interim player until the offseason to keep the team competitive and you get a player in McDermott who has potential to grow and help OKC become a balanced team. I feel Presti made the move to help suit Westbrook's needs. Still don't think Gibson is a long term solution.

That's essentially the way I'm grading it, but if we can keep Gibson on a nice 2-3 year team-option contract, that would be amazing. But I'm giving it an A. McDermott takes a lot of pressure off of Westbrook when he takes the floor with him which saves Russ' life, essentially, so he doesn't have to work so damn hard all the time. We open up the spacing for everyone else as well. So Kanter gets more room in the post to operate, so essentially teams have to pick their poison. Being that Westbrook plays heavy minutes, Payne wasn't a huge neccessity and he still showed that he was 2 years away from being a shiny talented role player.
So if we break this trade down into two pieces, we see:
Payne for McDermott + 2nd
and Morrow + Lauvergne for Gibson.
I say hell yeah. A **** plus.

I'm not sure if having Doug/taj or starting abrines has made a bigger difference.
