Because we didn't receive any offers for him. It's pretty simple.

Here is the thing about us young players. I don't think anybody here is advocating that we just give up on them, and trade them for low first rounders or second rounders like Philly just did with Noel. I think all Lakers fans out there think these guys have some potential, and could be nice players in the future. But, when you are talking about trading a guy with potential (and by default, a lot of risk) for a true proven star like Boogie or PG, then it's a whole different discussion.

I for one is an advocate of trading Ingram for Boogie, not because I think Ingram is going to bust his way out of the league in a couple of years, but I thought it would be really challenging for Ingram to ever get to Boogie's level. I could, of course, look like an idiot if Ingram is the new KD, but the trade would look like a huge steal for us if Ingram ends up more like Nic Batum or Tayshaun Prince. Projecting future growth is very hard, because so many factors are involved in a player's development, and that's why I don't think it's the worst idea in the world to trade potential for proven talent, especially if the given talent is young too like Boogie and PG.

Well the counter argument to that is the Lakers have an opportunity to gain a very valuable asset: a top 3 pick in a loaded 2017 draft. If the Lakers would have traded Ingram to get a Cousins or George now, then that chance at a top 3 pick is gone. So what's the harm in waiting til the off-season to make that trade? If the Lakers get that top 3 pick, now you can make that deal and potentially not have to give up Ingram. If you don't, you can trade Ingram then. There's just no upside in pursuing Cousins, George, Butler now, as opposed to waiting til after the season ended.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you are saying. I can certainly see why we didn't make a splash during this deadline. Hell, if i was in charge of the FO, I might have done the same thing by basically staying put.

That being said, when evaluating the Ingram for Boogie deal, you also need to ask yourself, how many superstars are available to be had during a season? And how many are affordable to trade for like Boogie was? No offense to Ingram, but trading him with Lou Will for Boogie is a pennies for a dollar type of trade, because we are almost guaranteed to end up with the best player in the deal. Those opportunities do not come around that often. The Boogie trade, to me, is more about striking great value.

As far as the top 3 draft pick is concerned, my feelings about it is pretty mixed if I am honest. I certainly understand the value of it, especially in this draft, but there are also issues that we need to see. First of all, we are not guaranteed to get it even if we continue to stink. Secondly, unless we can get a bullet proof no doubter of a superstar like KAT, Anthony Davis or John Wall type, you have to question just how valuable is that pick really. We picked D'Angelo Russell with the second overall pick in a so called strong draft, and I hardly see this team's fortune being turned around because of him. Not saying he is going to be a bust, but the guy did finish 9th in ROY voting last year, and only made marginal improvement this year. Just based on what we have seen so far, can we really even be sure this guy can be a starter on the next Lakers championship team? He still has time on his side, but man, he has not won me over in his first two seasons here.

The deal for Cousins wasn't just simply Ingram and filler. It was Ingram PLUS our other young assets. Look at what Amick, Ding, and Ramona have reported.

Lucky for us Mitch didn't listen to Jim and it never got that far. DMC's value is trash for a reason. There's a reason Boston didn't trade for him, they could have beat that offer easily and they're dying for that one legit star.

Before harboring some anger about how simple it would have been to make the deal, maybe consider front office around the league have more intel than us.

I agree with your opinion on assets vs proven stars. My whole reason to not make that trade is the potential for a top 3 pick. That's another hugely valuable asset that Lakers should be able to capitalize in the trade market. You're right there's no guarantee, but just having that pick will allow you to acquire a superstar and also keeping Ingram.

What can we realistically get for Deng? Seriously. There's gotta be a team that needs steady vets to balance out a locker room full of dumb alpha youngins. His veteran presence here has been great. Moving on.

Caldwell-Pope (or similarly functional 3&D young) would be interesting as a SF. Talk about long armed, potentially suffocating defense with a combo of Russell, Ingram, Brewer, CwP, Nance, Zubac. Add Randle's rebounding to that and we're getting a defensive identity. I realize they won't all play at the same time, but every lineup could be intense, long and fast.
