I hope we're in a position to draft Jackson....the guy has such a huge upside, great character and is fiercely competitive.

We better end in the bottom 3 then... which isn't happening unfortunately. I feel the same about Jackson though. I'd be fine with Isaac or Smith though.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
Lauri Markkanen looks just perfect for a big man today. Versatile, can post, shooting from midrange and from three. i dont know about his defensive skills tough. Markkanen is moving more "fluently" than KP, it doesnt look strange despite being 7f. He would be perfect for the draft. But with dirk and carlise we wont tank. we will fight until the bitter end for a playoff spot, despite the risk ending 9th or 10th and losing a good pick or reaching the 8th (which is very unlikely with the DMC trade) spot and being swept by the warriors. we will fight with dirk and carlise

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
NOP did some damage and is probably the favorite for the 8th playoff spot but with Noel things are looking up. We might pass them for 8th if not then we get a higher pick. Deron is still here and not traded so that speaks to our goal of winning now. He and Yogi make for a dangerous pair and Seth off the bench is dagger 3 ready along with Wes and that is some depth there. If Noel can provide defense and Dirk gets hot with this trade rekindling his game then we are tough all the way around with Dirk pushing Barnes as our best scorer. This team is young and can run and gun. If Hammons shows progress when he comes down from his development stint in Frisco the team is going to challenge and be tough to get a win against. Noel is a 6"11" PF that needs to develop his shot and we have the ability to mold him under Dirk's tutelage for 2 more years.
Deron Yogi JJB
Wes Seth Harris
Barnes DFS Brusino
Dirk Powell
Noel Hammons Mejri
add in our first round pick and with some luck next season will be a lot of fun and we might develop into a decent team again post Dirk. Given the team and its outlook we are still old at PG while being somewhat undersized at the 2 when Seth is in the game as a 2. A big PG would solve that weakness much as Kidd help Jet fit in. Would so love it if Ball fell to us or we could somehow get him.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
I am more interested in a roster similar to:
Frank Ntilikina or Dennis Smith
Tim Hardaway Jr
D Finney-Smith
Barnes
Noel
or
Yogi
Tim Hardaway Jr
Josh Jackson
Barnes
Noel
I really want the Mavericks to focus on clear athletic 2-way players.
I really want Mavs to trade Matthews for a draft day deal, and I am not really excited about a scenario that has Yogi as the #1 starter next year, unless we get Josh Jackson.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
Markkanen would look great next to Noel .. My dream would be
1-Yogi proves to be the answer at PG these last 26 games
2-Draft Markkanen
3-Steal Caldwell Pope
4-Trade Matthews for Picks
5-Use Matthews money locking up Yogi this summer , Re-Signing Dirk and the last 2 roster spots
PG-Yogi / Barea
SG-Pope / Curry
SF-Barnes / Finney / Brussino
PF-Dirk / Markkanen / Powell
C-Noel/ Mejri / Hammons

Pretty close to mine as well.
Yogi is a huge factor the rest of this season and Rick needs give him plenty of burn.
Markkanen would be a really nice complement to Noel and someone Dirk could mentor in during his final years and maybe beyond.
Dirk could become the next Holger to Lauri

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
IDK what Larry Brown is doing these days but Cuban should consider bringing him in the rest of this season to help Rick develop these young guys as a consultant. Rick will be out of his comfort zone and developing a team of young players is something new to this entire organization.

I still wonder about Yogi. I haven't gotten to watch him enough to even be confident in my feelings toward him, but I'm not convinced yet he is actually our future PG. I know that is essentially everyone's view the next 2-months, but I'm not confident he will get there :-/

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
He looks like a solid player to have, pushes the pace and is a pest on defense. For someone off the Nets d-league team, he's already a huge success. But of course, he won't deter the Mavs from picking a PG if they have the chance.Pointguard01 wrote:I still wonder about Yogi. I'm not sure he is a starter either. At least not someone who should deter us from picking a great PG prospect if that is the best player available when it's out turn to draft.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
I'm like 100% sure Yogi is not a starter. If he can develop into a Barea type player off he bench, great. But I don't even think he's there yet. He should get plenty of chances to prove me wrong and his play in the league over the next 2-months though.
As for he draft, i really want us to stay top 9. I think we guarantor ourselves a top prospect. To me, there is a huge drop off at pick #3, and then at pick #11.
Of those top 10, I don't love Fox or Markkanen, and of course I have some preference in the top 10, but I would be happy with any of he top 10. If we fall to pick #11, I don't feel as comfortable with getting a prime prospect.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
Yogi is way too hesitant to make mistakes now. Coach has him on a short leash. We will have to probably draft a PG to develop and Barea probably will be the starter next few years.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2017 Draft
My first choice is a PG in the draft. My second choice would be a PF. I prefer Barnes at SF and having a bigger lineup. We lose the rebounding battle way too many games.

Especially because Noel is not a great rebounder, we can't survive with Noel and Barnes as our bigmen. Noel needs to add muscle over the next 2-3 years and I just don't see how Dallas will be successful with them two down low. Dallas should draft BPA though. Luckily, there are quite a few PG options that should be available when we pick and it's the biggest need we have right now.
