what is the goal for this season exactly?
do you guys just want to sneak in the playoffs? would beating cleveland once or twice but losing the series be what you guys want? would you call winning 1 playoff series a sucess? what yall take on this because as a fan, i see a team on pace to lose more games this yeear than last, and were on a collison course with the team that swept us pretty easily last year. this season has been a joke too me but what yall think?

I want to tank our asses off but that won't happen. So right now just take advantage of a easy schedule and try for that 6th or 7th seed. As long as they avoid Cavs no one else scares me.

At the start of the season I was thinking playoff series win, but with all the injuries and non sense a few playoff wins would satisfy me for how weird this year has been.

Bingo.
I'd love to trade Reggie for someone like Hezonja (a young cheap wing the other team might have given up on) and salary relief, trade Baynes for any sort of draft pick, tank like there's no tomorrow and grab one of Ball / Fultz / Smith.

Ok push for the #6 seed.
Figure out if RJ can turn the corner and if his first half struggles were due to injury or if that's just who he is.
Similar for Dre, but determine if a.) long term plan is him and RJ (b.) If no, is he part of the long term plan without RJ

Re: what is the goal for this season exactly?
this season has showed a lot, i like what ish brings to the table but we need defense with that, to me our only holes are backup center and the point guard position. we Dont get great defense out of those, i would love to see a trade for Elfrid Payton and Vucevic with a pick swap for Reggie, parts and a couple future first. that would put us on track.
like a deal of:
Orlando gets: Reggie, Baynes, and Boban pick swap with use a two future first
we get back Payton, Vucevic, and a pick swap this year.
moving forward ideally we would take the best point guard available with that pick and Payton becomes the six man backup.
2018 lineup
top 5 pick/Payton
KCP/ Johnson
Mook/Harris
Leuer/Henry
Dre/Vucevic
i think that would be best case scenario, as in not going to happen.

SVG's goal is to get into the post season. They'll get swept by the Cavs or Celtics with ease.
SVG should have recognized how screwed up the payroll is considering how bad this team is and made aggressive moves to offload his roster full overpaid loafers. But, he stood pat, overvalued his overpaid players, and we're stuck with this crapfest for another 25 games.

Anyone else hoping we play Boston over Washington? I get bad vibes from Wall, Beal, and Gortat but for some reason believe we match up great vs Boston.

Yup, but as long as we can not play Cleveland that'd be fine. Have to get to playoffs first tho

I was really worried if they had gotten PG13 or Butler, but since they didn't then I'd agree. I actually thought with Love out, if Boston made a move they'd pass Cleveland. We'd get the 7th seed, and then still end up playing Cleveland in the first round lol

6th seed (probably best result) and upset the Raptors in round 1.

Re: what is the goal for this season exactly?
For me, if this team can finish with a .500 or better record (which may be enough to get the 6th seed), and wins at least one playoff game, I'd consider that a good and achievable goal.
I expected more from this team this season, but if they can achieve the above, it wouldn't be a wasted season, and we can build off that moving forward.

Stan's unwillingness to "tank", or build through the lottery is really my only concern with him in charge. I understand fear of selling low, but this deadline was a turning point, it was the perfect opportunity to move off of Reggie (and Baynes to a lesser extent), solve some of the upcoming salary crunch and it was really a no lose situation either ending up in the playoffs or in the lottery in a deep draft class. But ultimately Stan has a boss and it seems Gores isn't content with a lottery team headed into the new building.

Re: what is the goal for this season exactly?
I think a lot can happen in the second half of the season and am an optimist at heart, so...
1. Making the playoffs
2. Getting 6th or 7th seed
3. Winning the playoff series - yes, we could beat Boston, Toronto or Washington. Certainly win some games.
4. Post season, work on the roster
- PG: Hopefully RJ gets healthy and learns how to play team ball
- SG: Sign KCP, get a solid backup that can shoot 3s for 10-12 mpg and play D
- SF: Good
- PF: Good
- C: Watch Baynes leave, get ready for Boban!

I could see Pistons taking a guy like Kennard with their pick. Lights out shooter to back up KCP and fill a big void for cheap. I really think he will be one of the best 3pt shooters in the league the moment he comes in.

^ Just per the last line, due to the recent success of our small ball lineup, I think Leuer is gonna become our primary backup C next year (with Boban playing strictly match up wise when we need another true big behind Dre). That could also conceivably open up a few minutes for Ellenson at backup PF, too.
But that's nitpicking — I join you in optimism and second your post (although #3 is gonna be tough)!

Like what I see from Kennard. Thanks for the insight MM, I've hardly been keeping up with college this year, so I'm behind on a lot of the late lotto prospects and beyond.

I agree with you 100% - backup C is totally based on matchups. We actually have a pretty good roster and can flex as needed at the 3,4 and 5. Now if we could just do something about starting PG and backup SG
