Re: College Prospect Watch
So I've been watching college basketball today and caught Texas v Kansas & UCLA v Arizona.
Players to watch
Texas: Jarrett Allen (projected late 1st rd pick)
Kansas: Joshua Jackson (top 5 pick), Frank Mason (2nd rd?)
UCLA: Lonzo Ball(top 3 pick), TJ Leaf (late 1st), Anigbogu (late 1st)
Arizona: Markkanen (top 10), Trier (late 2nd)
Late 1st Round Defensive Centers: Jarrett Allen v Anigbogu
Allen is a two-way center with quick feet and pretty good fundamentals on both ends of the court. Texas' struggles this season are hardly his fault, as he generally found ways to do his job on both ends. Altogether, seems like a solid prospect (definitely a top 10 prospect in a lighter draft). He was an All-American in HS and has the goods on the court, but wasn't necessarily a dominant force given the increasingly perimeter-oriented college game. He seems like a kid who could seriously thrive with Brook Lopez as his veteran.
Finished with 20pts (8/13), 11reb, 1blk.
Anigbogu is a physical defensive presence. Doesn't average a ton of minutes and doesn't have much offensive upside whatsoever (defend, run, & dunk guy) but in terms of sheer defensive impact from the center position, he's up there.
Finished with...5pts.
Survey says: While Anigbogu has serious potential as a defensive presence, Marks seems to prefer big men who can contribute to stretching the floor and compete on both ends. With this in mind, Allen is probably the best center for what the FO is looking for.
Late 2nd Round Prospects:
Frank Mason is one of the best guards in college basketball. With shades of Yogi Ferrell to his game, the diminutive guard from Kansas is a tough kid who can score, pass, and get into his opponents defensively. Marks likes big guards, so I don't think the FO will pursue Mason, but this kid is gonna impress in the tournament.
Allonzo Trier exploded for 28pts (11/14), 5r, 2ast for Arizona. Wasn't on my radar before, but in terms of perimeter threats like Kennard, Trier might be right there with Luke in terms of under the radar SG prospects.
