Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
If we want a lights out shooter in the second Vezenkov might finally declare for the draft:
I've loved Vezenkov for a while now. He's just so fun to watch when he's on fire. He's like a PF version of Klay Thompson - unconscious shooting, with or without preparation, with the feet set or not, from weird positions... he just shoots it... and it goes in. He is legit shooter at the 4 and is playing great for Barcelona lately. He's averaging 8.5pts/3.3rbs/1ast in 19 minutes a game... He's shooting crazy 58/47/80 and insane 72% TS% this year. His shot is pure with very quick release. He is very smart and skilled player, but he's going to be somewhat of a liability on D. Still worth taking a shot in the second IMO.

Chad Ford's mock

23. Utah Jazz
Isaiah Hartenstein
Germany
Age: 18
Forward
The Jazz don't have any real needs right now, which gives them flexibility to either take a project or to find a player who can fit into the rotation someway.
While Hartenstein might be the least ready of the 4s we've ranked, there is a high ceiling with him. There aren't many 7-footers with his combination of athleticism, elite skill level and motor. He can be volatile, but he should be worth a gamble at this stage of the draft.
30. Utah Jazz (via Warriors)*
Donovan Mitchell
Louisville
Sophomore
Guard
Mitchell is having a strong sophomore season. He's one of the most athletic players in the draft and is emerging as a shooter.
He's a bit of a tweener, but he gives the Jazz some long-term depth in their backcourt.

I love Donovan Mitchell. He is built like a tank and defensively is a beast. He also has a nice 3pt shot. I could see him turning into a similar player to Eric Gordon.

It looks like the rules are set up for teams to use the d league on 2nd rounders without them taking up spots. The jazz could end up with like 5 prospects with some not even on the 15 next year. I hope the league continues to go in this direction and we see less tanking.
I like my prospects the same way I like my women... foreign- pickIBL

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
Lonzo is incredible...I don't know how it's going to work out in the NBA, but he has made NCAA basketball watchable for the first time in forever. They keep comparing him to J-Kidd on the broadcast. I think the comparison has some merit, but he definitely doesn't have the handle of J-Kidd. It's hard to know how his jumper/defense will translate.

Is it only because he is a left-handed, tall, white, lanky, excellent three point shooting, great passer that I think Luke Kennard would be Joe Ingles insurance?

His play is very reminiscent of Hayward actually. He doesn't have the same size, but the similarity in style, moves and movement is uncanny.

Allonzo Trier, everybody:
He was my favorite before last year, and he's returning with a bang. Having some awesome games for Arizona. Projected in the second right now. I wouldn't mind him even with our no. 30 pick.
Also... Bam Adebayo:
Keep falling baby. You will get to us at 25.
Also Monk
30 pt in a half

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
Thoughts on Johnathan Motley from Baylor?
I like his size, athleticism and seems to have a solid skill set. Has a ways to go as far as IQ, but I think he has all the right physical tools and a budding skill set that will only get better with time. He's been having a good year so far too. I'm guessing DL has some good insights him with his son being on the team and all. Might have some added trust there.
I'm also strangely intrigued by Isiah Briscoe. I've always liked what I've seen from him when he's played. Kinda reminds me of Marcus Smart in some ways.

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
Lauri Markkanen might be the best 7 footer shooter in the history of the league the moment he steps foot on an NBA floor. He's shooting 44% from 3 on 6 attempts per 40 minutes. He is insane. And he does it in variety of ways. Look at those stats:
(numbers by Ode To Oden podcast)
Catch and shoot: 1.38 ppp
Pick and pop: 1.24 ppp
Off screen: 1.35 ppp !!!!!!!!!!!! Yes! This is 7 footer running off screens and scoring at 1.35 ppp rate!!!!!
WTF!!!?!? Those are insane numbers. I'm beginning to think it might be a good idea to try to trade up for this kid(using Favors
? ). He will be an great addition and insane offensive weapon next to Gobert. He might be the perfect complement offensively for him I've ever seen.

I can't believe you just suggested a trade for Favors that gets us back a prospect, hell must have frozen over.
Ingles is cooked.

Well, I've said before I'd trade Favors for top 3-4-maybe 5 pick in this draft depending on who's left. Lauri is being projected between 5 and 10 in different mocks. I just kind of feel like Lauri might be pretty good next to Gobert. I'm still not sure I'd do it. But I'd have to consider it at this point.
I'm not against trading Favors, I'm against trading him for the garbage most people want us to trade him for.

Who here has a sister named Lauri?
Last time I felt this way about a prospect's name was when I thought Giannis rhymed with Janice. Maybe it is a sign?

I think Hartenstein is lottery talent. Legit 7-footer, good athlete, has inside-outside game, young. Plays with an edge. To me he looks like a better prospect than Bender and Sabonis from last year, possibly Poeltl as well. I don't know if he's really going to play the 4, but I would take a hard look at him. I think if he were playing college in the U.S. I think he'd be discussed in the top half of the lottery.

Ever heard of Kareem? Or Dirk? Or Wilt?
It is great that Markkanen is shooting well in college, but wait until he scores a few thousands points in the NBA before crowning him the greatest 7 ft shooter in the history of the NBA.

He was talking about shooting ability: "Lauri Markkanen might be the best 7 footer shooter in the history of the league the moment he steps foot on an NBA floor."

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Re: NBA 2017 Draft Prospects Thread
I saw Lauri play twice, both against UCLA. The first game he did absolutely nothing and looked like your standard white guy in college basketball. The second game he exploded for 29 points and hit some impressive shots. His footwork and release is that of a guard. He hit a deep contested 3 on the move that almost made me forget about the first game.
With that said, I think stitches is really jumping the gun by calling him the best 7 foot shooter ever. Dirk create a whole generation of wannabees.

Agreed. I really like this kids game. I also really like the fact that he should be able to play the 4 and 5 spots so he brings versatility.
