He's just a name at this point. Hasn't done anything significant in a while.

For the season, 18 games in, he's got 19 combined blocks/steals/assists. He basically just grabs rebounds for Duke.

I think Giles will atleast be a decent player but he has major health concerns and could suffer another knee injury like Parker. Hopefully some team gambles on Giles in the lottery.

If he could develop a jumpshot...

I like Bam, in a limited capacity. I was high on him early on, but as I saw more of him, he stands out as just an aggressive type athlete who makes his name off effort plays. Not that that's a bad thing. I just look at him on our team, and don't see a fit.

As for Giles, I never bought the hype. I watched him play, and then watched other top prospects play, and couldn't understand how anybody could have him placed above other top talent. If I had a draft board, hed either not be on it or a 2nd rounder. Too risky for me.

The more I watch this year's prospects, the stronger my feeling that this is a very top heavy draft gets. Really bad year to win too many games instead of tanking.

I'm kinda meh about the entire 10-20 range. Williams, Giles, Leaf, Rabb, Hartenstein, Bridges, Adebayo, none of them are that exciting. I think our best hope is Markkanen slipping through somehow.

Can't wait for the first 2 months of next season. No draft pick is guaranteed to be a great or bad NBA player yet most people think we're incapable of drafting a great player since we'll most likely be picking at #16. I mean 2 of our best players on this team are second round picks. The draft is about picking the best potential NBA player not the best college player.

TJ Leaf is gonna be a solid player. He reminds me of a young David Lee when he was balling in NY.

What was OG's knee injury? I can't find the specifics of it. I think he'll be there at 16

It's all about chances. Yes, we're not doomed because we're gonna pick mid first round. But you have to acknowledge two things:

1) Chances of hitting gold are way higher in the Top 5 of the draft than it is in the mid-round.
2) This particular draft class is very top heavy.

In most cases where a mid-round or lower player turned out to be a franchise player type, he's either

1) A massive overachiever that far surpassed the upside he showed in college and prior. (Kawhi, Butler)
2) International player with limited exposure. (Giannis, Jokic)

The first type is completely random, there's really no chance of knowing this is going to be the case. The second one is immensely risky. And since we have no pick in 2018, a complete bust of a pick would really set the franchise back.

Also, drafts have never been about "picking the best college player". If that were the case, Buddy Hield would go No. 1 last year.

If this guy were 7'1 instead of 6'8, he'd be a Top 3 pick. Franchise-altering center, even.

He's 6'10 and weights 260. If he could develop a jumpshot he'd make a great PF/stretch 5(or whatever people call it) but even at center I think he'd be better than average.

Watched UM v Duke... Duke's prospects looked like chit. Came away more impressed with Bruce Brown. Complete player.

Watched a Purdue v Michigan State game from a few weeks ago. Swanigan and Bridges were both hot from three. Bridges is kinda like a worse defense better scoring Winslow. Swanigan is a threat in the pick and pop but is low volume and spends most of his time playing like a back to the basket center, which won't fit Spo's system.

Perhaps best option would be a draft night trade. I wish we could geta guy like Crowder on a great contract but our pick is getting too low. Probably can get a young player who wasn't put it together yet like Stanimal or Oubre, maybe Dekker could be attainable.

Hey Burnie! I've been meaning to take a look at Bruce Brown. Will look at him next.

What are your thoughts on Justin Jackson of UNC and Allonzo Trier of Arizona?

Duke's weakness has always been physicality which is why Coach L is 5-3 against them since coming to The U. If you constantly put them in a pick n roll situations on defense and make them finish through contact on offense they'll struggle.

They did look terrible lol, only thing poor Giles can do right now is rebound

My top 5 of could be 15+ prospects are (In no particular order)

1.Leaf
2.Swanigan
3.Patton
4.Williams
5.Hartenstein

Not sure if this is gamble on Giles territory and I like the 5 above more than Bridges so likely no wings are going to be in that general area.

re: jackson. I'm weary of the seniors who looked like second round picks the year before. That's how you draft a kaminsky ahead of Winslow, Turner and Booker.

re: Trier, I was focusing on iLoveMarkkanen when watching them, but he impressed me with his versatility scoring. He's shooting, slashing, he has offensive game.

Did anybody mention on here that Josh Jackson got arrested for vandalising the car of the ex-gf of a friend of his who was charged with domestic violence against said girl? So much for being less of a bonehead than Beasley. :nonono:

Bruce Brown is the truth. All around player. Defense, offense. If Miami makes the tournament and Brown plays as he has been playing, I could see him as a one-and-done.

Got the same feeling.

As much as I'm enjoying our play lately, this a bad year to slip outside the top 6-8 picks.

A Josh Jackson or a Jonathan Isaac type player could have been a huge, HUGE addition for us going forward.

I see some of names mentioned here and I have zero confidence in them becoming more then decent bench guys.
