Off-Topic - Seth Curry

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Wed Mar 1, 2017 12:04 am

Why didn't we try for this guy considering how bad we shoot? I was one of us that wanted him over everyone else in the offseason. If as fans we can see it, why can't our front office? Seth Curry is absolutely legit and you could see it before this season. Frustrating.

We have no way of knowing if VanBowers reached out to his agent only to be told he wouldn't come here.

He signed with a team that not only could give him a role but where he could reasonably assume that he'd be starting for 20 games

Deron Williams injury history could have played a part

BTW, if we signed him we dont get Ish! Which would we prefer?

Don't worry guys, you're probably one of maybe 15 fan bases around the league that are all saying the same thing.....

I literally JUST sent the same text to my brother and friends an hour ago. Seth was on the Magic's summer league team (twice I think. SMH).

I just think it's weird like Han said, Detroit needs shooters and that is the on thing that we all knew Seth can do. He might be able to do it very very good too.

I'm not sure I would take him over Ish tho, the long run yeah probably

Wait, he was on your summer league team at one point, right? I was under the impression he was, because he was on a hell of a lot of teams who could of signed him.

If so, yeah, same here dude. We were **** **** for the last 4 years... and we had him on our summer league team.... I was as shocked as you are. Dude is Steph Curry's brother, there's NO WAY he doesn't at least become as dead-eye 3 point shooter at some point lol. That's what I was thinking about then. And here we are.

We had Oladipo, Payton, basically no back court shooting either. We could of used him as well. Weird.

I don't think he was on our SL, but the little stint he had to finish out the year in the League last year, you could tell he can at least shoot. You'd think he would improve at other aspects and maybe even shoot better as he get's used to the league. Last year was the first year he actually got decent PT I believe

Ah okay. Gotcha.

At least you didn't have his "rights," it's not like he would of 100% signed with you if it's just Free Agency this last summer you're referring to... unlike the Magic.

I can't quite remember, but I even think he was killing it for us during SL too lol

He played all of 4 games before joining the Kings last year. I wasn't crazy about him, but thought he could help. We certainly missed on him, but so did a ton of teams. Cleveland has only played him 1 game, but I want to say they had him on roster, twice. That would've made the last couple NBA finals a fun affair for Dell Curry, their dad.

But, in all honesty. There are just player you miss on. Hassan Whiteside was nothing with the kings and out of the NBA for two seasons.

Isaiah Thomas was taken 60th overall. Pistons had like the 52nd pick that year. How do you not take Thomas for the gimmick of having Isaiah Thomas on the team that made Isiah Thomas famous? Don't tell me "well, we already took Brandon Knight", because teams have taken more then one pg in one draft before.

Middleton is a career 40% 3pt Shooter and plays great defense. We drafted him and we gave him away as a throw in, in a trade for Jennings, instead of trade Singler...

You should complain about that instead of Seth Curry imo. Can you imagine KCP and Middleton at the wings for us for the foresee future?

That BJ trade was stupid then and looks even worse now:

Dre
Monroe
Middo
KCP
Knight

Would have given SVG a better place to start than what he had.

Joe being desperate

He was on Magic's summer league team 2 summers in a row. He couldn't stick because he was a one trick pony. He could just shoot and was too undersized to play SG while he is not that noticeable as a passer. But, this just goes to show you if a player keeps working on their game for a couple of years, they can crack the bigs just like Ish did.

Curry went to Dallas on such a cheap deal considering the money available on the market because he wanted a clearer path to playing time. That wasn't happening in Detroit. If the choice was him or Smith I would still be going with the latter. At that time it would have been the opposite but with how well Ish has played and the difference a real facilitating point guard has on the rest of the team it's not close. Seth is a great shooter and general off-ball player, but he's not making the impact that Smith has.

Now, if the team could have somehow convinced him to take the money they gave to Marjanovic? :droop: Don't get me wrong, I'm still a fan of Boban but it's clear that Van Gundy prefers to have a defensive presence at center. Which isn't unreasonable, especially considering the massive liability that Drummond is in that facet, but I'm starting to worry that Stan won't ever feature Marjanovic in any kind of meaningful role in the rotation. I guess we will see what happens when Baynes is gone (or Boban's salary is dumped this summer).

Yeah, two summers. I thought so.

He obviously wasn't the same then as now, but that's what I'm saying.... my friend and I were pissed (jokingly, because we didnt know he'd actually be good) we didn't sign him. He's a Curry, hell he looks like Steph Curry FFS, so we wanted to give him a chance to see if he can one day develop half court-Curry like range lol .

I used to watch Ish alot in games his first 2 years in the NBA. I saw alot of them and even been to a few games during Ish's 2nd season. I thought he had much potential as he had blazing speed. But, he was just so erratic. I am glad the game has slowed down for him and his assist/turnover ratio is now phenomenal.

Wait, i was talking about Seth.

Haha. Dude, I've made a post about Smith once on the GB, its fitting that we're on the Pistons Board, though, so:

Ishe Smith was the worst basketball player I've ever seen in my life when he was in a Magic uniform. Worse then Chris Duhon. Yes!. i know that's harsh, and it's funny you say he had potential. For me, when he was on the Magic. he was sooo bad dude. He had absolutely no skills. Couldn't shoot, every time he'd go for a dunk or layup he'd miss or get blocked. I literally remember him missing a few wide open break away dunks, which added to the fuel back then. I won't go into more detail. But back then I thought he was the worst player ever. He definitely looked and played like a D-League player back then, and knew his limitations.

Fast forward to today, well, really since last year. I made the post on the GB last season about how he was sooo bad in ORL but improved so much... this was when he was on Pelicans. he was great. But man, now he's a nice little player, and it's ironic cause I would love to replace Watson with him and have him be our back up. He's a glue guy, plays so hard, loves his teammates, seems very cool, etc. But he's actually producing on the court now. He was a DFS superstar last year when he was starting for Nola

Return to Detroit Pistons
