Birdman won a few years back, beating out Whiplash, The Imitation Game, Selma and The Theory of Everything. To me, that was a joke.

I agree 100% there. Birdman beating out any of those.. was a joke.

Whiplash was my favorite film that year. I liked Selma much better than Birdman as well.

There were reasons why Birdman won. From an acting and directing POV, it was pretty f*cking impressive. Impressive enough to win, IDK. Whiplash was very deserving too. The others were pretty ordinary I thought.

Birdman was an incredibly well made film, but I liked Whiplash more. Birdman was just one of those movies were you came away more impressed with the acting and filmwork than the story whereas I felt Whiplash was just a really good movie all around.

I watched Manchester By the Sea today. Not quite sure how I feel about it yet.

Good for you letting it sit and percolate. I found it more nuanced than just, 'such a depressing movie'. Which it was, but more than just that for me.

Finished Deadwood last night. I really enjoyed the classic setup of the characters and how some could be given to become narrators at any point. Felt like a Greek tragedy at most points.

Strictly speaking of characters the most compelling obviously being Swearengen. Ian McShane was amazing. I would have to echo other posters on the topic but he is right up there as one of the best characters in television history that I have found. Also, love how Raylan Givens just seems like part of a matured offspring of Seth Bullock. He was perfectly cast.

I know, it just ends without a satisfying conclusion and there are talks of a movie at some point but even knowing that if you enjoy great scripted television it really is 'must see' in my humble opinion. It's unique but familiar in its story, characters, and setting. The dialogue alone was groundbreaking at the time. I could spend hours dissecting it but no one wants to read that.

Loved Deadwood. Hated that it was ended prematurely for freakin' John in Cincinnati. I like Olyphant in just about everything he's done. Haven't watched Santa Clara Diet yet but hope to get to that this week. McShane is also good in everything. I loved it when I saw he was on Game of Thrones but that didn't last long. Same with Ray Donovan. American Gods looks interesting, I'll check it out when it premieres in a few weeks.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

They've had a few of these. It's nuts to think back on what the series was in season one and what it is now.

I stopped watching during season 1. Was so bad. I take it the show has improved.

This. I love the show and I gave up a few episodes into the first season. There was a BIG THING that happened in the middle of it that made me jump back in and since then I haven't regretted it.

Anyone check out Patriot on Amazon? Just finished the 1st episode and very intrigued. Its kind of a weird cohen bros style spy show.

I just finished the mid-season finale last night. First thing I thought of was your post. The show has hit it's stride the last year or so. I'm looking forward to it's return in April especially seeing
Spoiler:
Agent May leading Hydra.
Vice President of Parker-Nation.

Spoiler:
I wonder how long they stick in this alternate realty. Or if they go deep on how Coulson not being apart of S.H.I.E.L.D. somehow led to Hydra winning and May being a leader. And if they just remove Simmons all together.

Compelling string of flicks coming out this month.

Logan
Kong
Life

And Get Out was awesome. I was unsure how they would eventually close the whole hypnosis arc, but **** got creepy.

Spoiler:
I think they may milk it up until the season finale. I'm usually not a fan of alternate reality/memory stuff but there is some good new material here that can be explored. Also one of my favorite characters Ward is coming back. I wonder if Fitz is with, I'm guessing Ava.

Life is the only one of those three that I'm actually interested in seeing. I'm sick of X-Men movies and I never was much of a fan of the King Kong series.

I saw Get Out and agree that it was excellent. I'm going to see it again in a couple weeks.
