Vote: win 18 games or lose 18 ?

Moderators: ChosenSavior, UCF, Knightro, UCFJayBird, Def Swami, Howard Mass

Would you rather want Orlando to win 18 games to close out the season, or lose 18 games?

Win 18: the current core needs to learn to win, and new talent will only slow down team progression.

Lose 18: A bottom-3 finish guarantees the Magic a top-5 pick in a deep draft and a star is needed.

Right. I'm a fan. I understand the concept but I like to see my team win and let the chips fall where they may. Hope for a Giannis or a Kawhi or a Manu or a Parker, etc... a few spots back. San Antonio "shouldn't" have had that Duncan pick...the Celtics tanked and planned their way into 2 high lottery picks and ended up with two guys that didn't catch on (at least in Boston). Nothing is certain, particularly now that the draft is full of 19 year olds and euros who play 10mpg...I'll enjoy my team and my coach fighting for wins and developing chemistry.

It was a hypothetical question...18 wins out of 22 would signal a lot more than "not tanking". There are a lot of teams on the bubble and in the playoffs who aren't tanking. It's not a given that it's best to tank if you're not going to beat Golden State this year. Geez, enjoy the team playing well, it's only been two games (and one win)...don't panic...BTW, yet another legendary draft - just like every year. No way to know who transitions to NBA.

The Spurs certainly did not tank to get the overall #1. Robinson got injured.

This is the same with Curry's injury and its positive effect on the Warriors payroll.

However you wanna look at it they got the number 1 pick and got the star. If you have another road to getting a top 3 pick thats not tanking im all ears.

They don't. The only examples they give is drafting a diamond in the rough or getting a lucky low % pick in the lottery.

An interesting trend is developing about excellent management outcomes:
The playoff caliber Celts could draft overall #1 in 2017 (Boston also has a slew of 2nd-rounders). For 2016, the Celts had an overall #3. In 2015 the Cavs had the overall #1 (traded to get Love).

Beyond: Atlanta looks to get Minny's pick next year, which could be a high pick. The Celts also get receive a 2018 Nets first-round pick AND a 2018 Grizzlies first-round pick.

A pattern of trading for a teams projected high first could really help out teams for the future.

Interesting that Minny's pick is so likely to be valuable (still)...they had the #5 overall pick last year (who can't beat out Rubio) and three, count em three, overall #1's in a row before that (Bennett, Wiggins, Towns)...not busts by any means but far from a good team, in fact most of the year they've been below us in the standings. If that doesn't change quick, the next conversation will be "can they re-sign them?".

Ok. hypothetically If we win most of our remaining games not a single person could look back on those games and extract any long term positive effect. You could however look back and see how winning those games ruined any chance of landing talented players and possibly a generational talent. The negatives outweigh the short term positives. Also, nobody that has followed NBA basketball for a number of years thinks every draft is "legendary" and they certainly understand that's its a crapshoot.

Some drafts are weak, some are top heavy, and some are loaded. Most analysts think this draft is loaded and with so many players projected to be impactful there is a good chance of upgrading our roster with a top pick. We just witnessed the ibaka project fail and thus far the Biyombo signing has been a flop. So yeah drafting a young kid out of college is an uncertainty like everything else in the NBA. Unless of course you land a surefire HOF in their prime.

i'm a fan too and have been since 89', I enjoy watching my team win as well. I just think we finally have a chance at a high draft pick in a loaded draft and we should take advantage of it.

I understand both sides on this issue I love the idea of having a guarantee at a high pick but I like the idea of finally watching a winning product that makes me actually excited about are potential.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned we have the clippers/raptors 1st pick this year plus a good second rounder or 2 (depending on the Lakers landing in the top 3 this year) so if we were to go on such a win streak and end up with a pick in between 8-14 that we could use those assets to trade up and get the stud that we want. I'm sure we will end up just out of the reach of the "can't miss guys" because that's just how it has been going for the magic ever since Dwight left.

Its hard for me to decide. In the long run it would be good to get a high draft pick in this upcoming draft. If we win that means this team is starting to click and AG is excelling at the 4 and T Ross is killing it at the 2.

I totally get the value of moving up...but 18-4 would be serious momentum and good vibes to end the season. 13-9...I'm not so enthused
