Beasley - What are the Nuggets doing?

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Mon Feb 27, 2017 1:08 pm

Beasley has played 7 games for the D-league Skyforce (Miami's team). He has averaged 30 mpg with 18 ppg, 5 rpg, 1.5 apg, and 1.4 spg.

Sure seems to have some skills but I just want to know why the Nuggets keep yanking him back to sit on the bench and not play. Right now, with everyone healthy, is the perfect time for him to be PLAYING in the D-league.

I think the Nuggets were always planning to keep Beasley stashed because of his injury, but I agree he should be playing in the D-League. I also think Mudiay should be there too, seems Malone is just not even bothering with the young guys, undermining their potential.

Both Mudiay and Beasley have proved they will put up godly numbers in D-League/lesser competition games so they aren't really going to get challenged or get better IMO. I actually think it helps to keep them on the roster and practice against Pro competition daily.

If you listen to any of the announcers/studio hosts that are former players, you will frequently hear comments like, "You have to play to learn" or "The better your opponent, the more you learn". My high school coaches said that in every sport. College coaches have espoused that since before I was born - in every sport. Pro coaches and players have been saying that as far back as my feeble memory goes.

So playing against D-league is better than not playing and playing in the NBA, even garbage time minutes is better than playing in the D-league. That means, if Malone is afraid to play them in garbage minutes and he has not done that much, then leave them in the D-league. Mudiay has been sent down three times and each time for 2 or 3 games. But practice is not as effective as playing because practice is not game, it tends to be stop and go, hold and learn. Plus in practice the scrubs are not allowed to go all out in case a starter gets hurt and you get so used to each player, you know what they are going to do, especially if a play is called because you know the plays!

Agree to disagree. I believe if you keep Mudiay and Beasley on an NBA team their confidence will continue to grow. They both know they will dominate lesser competition and by sending them down it might discourage them b/c it's basically saying you are not an NBA player yet. I'm not a psychologist, I just don't advocate putting players against lesser competition game or practice. You can learn more being around NBA players than D-League players.

Have you guys seen D-League games? Zero defense. NOBODY is getting better by playing d-league games. Might as well say it would be better to drop him off at an open gym for a couple hours every few days instead of keeping him on the roster. Limited practice reps against Gary Harris is better than 30 mpg in the d- league in terms of development.

Yeah I think there's a reason you don't see many teams use the d-league that way. Practicing with NBA-quality players and getting used to the travel and schedule is far more valuable experience than whatever would happen playing for a d-league team the Nuggets have no control over.

Actually, some NBA teams use D-league just like that. The Toronto Raptors are the most extreme with their D-league team in a suburb of Toronto. They actually have their young players on their roster go to D-league practices when the NBA team is in Toronto but not practicing.

So what's the big deal about that? The Nuggets don't believe in defense anyway - and that's the truth, not sarcasm.

The way they play in the d-league makes the way the nuggets play look like the '04 pistons. And it's all just one on one ball. Learning how to go one on one with scrubs not trying on defense won't help Beasley learn how to play in our system at all. Again, give me limited practice reps playing with plumlee every day.

While lesser competition, Mudiay needs his confidence back, like when he played vs. the Celtics back in Nov. The D-league could provide that, not sure why they don't put in down there for a stint.

There is some kind of rule that players have to miss a certain number of games due to injury or be in their 1st 2 years in the NBA to be eligible for D league assignment.

What's the big deal with the NBA vs. the D-league? At least for the Nuggets?
Their offense is 90% "playground" and it works well. But it's not like someone has to learn plays and it's all about learning each other which is mostly focused on the top-8 or so players, not the bottom-5 for sure.

Their defense is all left on the playground also.

Sure seems like the Nuggets have adopted the "NBA All-Star Offense & Defense". Am I happy with it? Nope, but it's working.

Beasley has 18 games with the Nuggets and 10 games in the D-League.
He has been sent to the D-League again.

Beasley's situation reminds me of Sonny Weems and Jordan Hamilton. All were promising rookies but weren't given enough opportunity to prove their worth due to our depth.

Weems and Hamilton were overrated for their talent, neither really did much in the NBA, I hope that Beasley has more talent than either of them. Despite the basic stats his shooting percentages are not good for a Dleaguer. Now it is a small sample size and he was a good shooter in college, but it looks like he is not ready for a real role on an NBA team at this point.

Beasley has 18pt in 21mins, showed some impressive passing and a little rebounding...he'll fit in nicely next year.

Heard a Scott Hastings interview where he heard some NBA execs speculating that Beasley could end up as a PG. Also was rumored that Juancho could be the best of 3 rookies

PGs: Murray, Mudiay, Beasley - maybe Radecivic?
Harris is about the same size as all of them and in the modern NBA, multiple ball-handlers is a very good thing.

I did not hear the show today, but Beasley has limited handles which would make it hard to be a PG, I have expected to become more of a 3 and D shooter (his Defense is bad currently but hopefully improve) which fits perfectly off the bench at SG.

He has repeated the information on Juancho repeatedly on his show, I have also heard a couple of radio interviews on other shows where it was repeated by a couple of the nuggets beat reporters. Juancho is supposed to be really really damn good, but due to the veterans Malone is afraid to give him minutes. I said at the deadline that I wanted at least 1 forward moved, and I still think it was a mistake that they did not move someone.
