I really like Mitchell.Think he's going to be a good long time player. I'd take him in the teens, but I'm not drafting. Think he goes in the 20s. Will be great for any playoff team. He's really skilled and the only thing he is missing is a true point guard's speed.

I think he is right there as a late lotto guy for me, the real question is him vs. Bruce Brown and co for example, those defensive guys in the perimeter are hard to come by.

Watching last night's game v WF... not sure how you could pick Mitchell over Collins - regardless of them being completely different types of players. Granted, everyone has a rotten game every once in a while.

It's pretty easy. It's a matter of valuing particular skill sets.

John Collins right now is a play finisher with limited creation outside of post-ups and at this stage a low IQ/apathetic defender with ok not great defensive tools.

Guys like that just don't have a lot of value around the league today.

Donovan Mitchell picked up his 2nd foul with 6 or 7 minutes to go in the 1st half yesterday. Pitino took him out of the game and Wake Forest came back, all the way down from like 14 points and tied it at the half. Mitchell played great defense and he shut down Crawford, and scored 7 points, to go along with 3 assists, 3 steals in the first half.

Sitting Mitchell was a bad move, ultimately turned the game around for WF.

I want to make it clear that I don't think John Collins is a bad player. He's is really freaking good and what he does.

There's just a lot of questions regarding how he'll translate and if he'll be able to expand his game when his role as an NBA style PF inevitably changes.

i was impressed with his scoring around the basket but it seems like he doesn't play defense. Also has a short wingspan relative to his height, but it's still somewhere around 6'11"

Actually, I thought he played even better than his stats - which were outstanding. He should have had at least a couple more transition baskets in the first half, but his guards failed to get him the ball when he out-ran everyone down court.

Collins got in early foul trouble too. He obviously was playing to avoid fouls on defense after that - and that's why he wasn't aggressive defensively for a good part of the game. Virtually every college game has streaks. Mitchell's bad game is what it is - overall, he played poorly.

Any further thoughts on this guy? Think he's a late riser and winds up at latest in the mid teens, especially if he measures out at 6'3 in socks with a solid wingspan.

There's a lot to like here imho, his game seems tailor made for the NBA. The right coach and situation will be key for him though.

If nobody drops out of the top 10 then I could see the Pistons possibly being interested at 12.

Definitely think he's a riser. One of my favorites. Think he's going to be better than some of the guards up top.

I should also say if you're high on him, how do you feel about Luke Kennard?

If he can become a respectable off the dribble shooter + continue to develop his pg skills he has a chance to be a starter, but I still worry about his ability to be efficient offensively unless he's an above average shooter from 3 on good volume.

Great 3rd guard floor though on the right team w/ upside and probably should go back-end lottery.

I see him as a starter down the line, but not as a PG. I think the biggest thing for him is getting experience in the NBA and I think once he's comfortable it'll all come together. When I say comfortable, I mean think the game, which usually takes players around 3 years. Until then I think he's a high quality backup and maybe even 6th Man worthy down the line.

I personally would love to see him on a team like Portland, where he could play behind McCollum and Lillard who can both play with or without the ball.

I've recommended Mitchell on various Blazer boards so we are on the same page there. Probably would still like Dozier over him, but PJ might still be available at the Mem pick or even the Cle pick thus a chance at both.

Dozier would be a good fit defensively and with upside, but Mitchell could also defend well and he's more ready right away. Even if Dozier improves his three point shooting, he can't do what Mitchell does with his shot and probably won't shoot like that unless he works on it for years to come. Mitchell can hit threes dribbling in small spaces, can do it off of screens and can do it off of NBA-level dribble moves. He's also just visually more viceral in terms of motor. On the other hand Dozier is so fluid, long and has great control. They could go with either, but I think if they're looking for someone that can help immediately they should go with Mitchell. I know the Blazers like to take projects they can develop though so I could see it going both ways.

100% agree here. Mitchell is definitely a guy that I could see getting 15-20 minutes a game as a rookie and not being a major negative. Just think Dozier has a chance to be a more nuanced offensive player while offering more defensive value due to his size.

The way Mitchell comes off screens for spot up 3's and slices through defenders and finishes or dishes he seems can't miss as at least a high level 6xth man.

I agree that he should be able to immediately play rotation minutes even on a good team and will take a few seasons to really "get it" and then is where he has legit star potential.
