Otto vs hayward

Post#1 » by knicksup19 » Thu Mar 2, 2017 3:56 am

I was talking to a wizard fan today and he hypothecitally he would rather give the max porter vs giving it to Gordon Hayward.

I'm not sure if you guys could even offer gordon that but let's say you could

Would wizard fans really choose to keep porter over getting Gordon Hayward for comparable money?

Plus Hayward is such a good singer with Maroon 5.

Hayward is a better player. But on the Wizards, with Wall and Beal taking a lot of shots, a fair case can be made that Porter is a better fit because he's ottomatic from 3-point range and he's a much more versatile defender who can guard 3 positions.

But the real difference between the two is that Hayward is 3 years older than Porter, and has 3 more years of NBA experience. It's a pretty good bet that Haywood is pretty much at his peak. Porter is likely to keep getting better.

Hayward is better but he is also 3 years older and in his prime. If you compare their 23 year old seasons Porter rates as the considerably better player, but Porter also has a smaller role. Does Otto have the ability to up his usage in the seasons to come, or will he always be limited to the 3rd/4th option on offense? I think the answer to that question will determine if Otto can be better than Hayward.

That's a tough one, after watching Hayward torch Otto and then seeing Porter's disappearing act tonight against the Raps. I think I'd lean Porter given his age and the chemistry he has with the team. He doesn't have Hayward's stats - not even close right now - but after he became the league's #1 3pt shooter, it seems that a lot of fans lost sight of what made him so great to begin with. It's not (just) the 3's - it's his knack for being in the right place at the right time, constant hustle on D and the offensive glass, just overall his BBIQ seems to be off the charts.Whatever drills and coaching Brad used to improve his handle this past year, Otto needs to follow suit. Some dribble moves and a little shimmy shake would make him dangerous on offense and allow him to bump the USG% up without losing much efficiency. With his proven ability to improve YOY, I'm not sure that anyone can put a ceiling on Otto right now whereas Hayward is what he is.

Hayward can get his own shot. Defensively pretty similar but Otto can guard more positions.

I'd take Hayward. Otto has a pretty high ceiling and hes younger as others have mentioned, and he also clicks with what this team is doing. But Hayward is in a tier above, there's no guarantee Otto will ever be as good or even any closer.

It'd have to be a sign and trade, and we'd need to send incentive (that we don't have).

Pipe dream.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Defensively they are not similar. Porter is a much better defender than Hayward. Porter is also a better rebounder, has a higher assist/to ratio, gets more steals and has a higher RPM while being 3 years younger.

At age 23 Hayward was not even in the same zip code as Porter right now.

Not to mention that Porter has been improving at a rapid rate. Just because he hasn't done a lot of 1 on 1 scoring doesn't mean he can't do it. Just look at how much better Beal is scoring off the dribble this season vs the last 4 seasons.

I take Porter pretty easily over Hayward.

Otto has made huge strides but so has Hayward. He made huge strides in 2014-15 and sure, maybe he's reached his peak, which is an All-Star. Not sure Otto will ever be an All-Star but he's should be a damn good player with a very good BBIQ. He should improve defensively as he keeps getting stronger. Hayward is on a very good defensive team so he can be average and not hurt them because he has Gobert and Favors back there.
