This is a pattern with Embiid. I know there are those out there with the its not the foot and its not stress fractures but this guy has played in so few games and its constantly something with him. Dude has all the talent in the world but I fear it will always be something with him injury wise. Sometimes guys just can't stay healthy. If Embiid misses extended time next year how do you even start talking max level money with this guy?

I refuse to worry about Embiid and I suggest you all do the same. If he ends up always being like this, then he does, but worrying is not gonna do anyone any good. Embiid is hope for us, and I will hold onto that hope until there is nothing left. For now, I'll chalk it up to a fluky fall. It's not a stress fracture, it's not an ACL tear. Frankly, we're lucky he didn't tear his ACL the way the knee bent inward, so there's hope for optimism there. If Embiid was truly that fragile, we're talking him missing 12 months with knee reconstruction.

You guys can be doom and gloom if you want, but I'm not going there until it is totally necessary. All we have is hope right now, gotta hang onto it.

Do you guys remember how many times Embiid ended up on the ground holding or checking out his knee before that Portland game? It happened at least 5 times before that when his knee suddenly buckled or he landed awkwardly. He wears those compression stockings all the time which might have masked some of the underlying instability/pain but there was probably a tear early on which only got worse over time. In a way I'm glad they've now identified it and are doing what needs to be done to address it, because I always had some concern about his knee even when he was playing solid minutes and cooking.

In fact, I wonder if early he was trying to conceal and compensate for the pain at times by frequently landing off balance and letting his momentum carry him the the floor. Most of us assumed he had to improve his coordination, but maybe he was afraid to land solidly in a way that his knees would take the full force.....it would not be surprising given his history and desire to prove that be could stay healthy and play more minutes.

he'll never be healthy

plain and simple. it's devastating , but he's proven time after time for years now, he's incapable of staying healthy to play pro sports.

i literally posted this in 2014 and got ripped to shreds, and here we are 3 years later and it's actually gotten even worse than what I imagined.

Joel needs serious mentoring in developing much more efficient moves to replace his tendency towards spontaneous launch resulting in high risk landings. give him the ball closer to the rim. same thing on the defensive end.

I knew that Embiid would be shut down for the year immediately after the announcement of the "minor" meniscus tear before the all-star break that was initially ruled a bone bruise. Call me a crazy tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist all you want to, but all of the factors that went down over the last week or so (dumping Noel and Ilyasova, keeping Okafor despite all the rumors, and shutting down both Simmons and Embiid) are too much of a coincidence for me.

The doom and gloom "he will never be healthy" posts are understandable given the history and mindset of 76ers fans, but they are not valid.

Embiid's foot held up fine this season. He had a separate injury which is common, easily treatable and not chronic in any way.

Many young big men develop similar injuries in the NBA. There are many reasons for that. Embiid is no exception.

He will be fine. He will address his meniscus issue and be ready to go next season. Not a franchise player? Please. I know it is hard to accept that we got this lucky, but Embiid is a transformational talent. He will be a perennial All-Star in the NBA.

The 76ers will be set with a healthy Embiid, Simmons, Saric, and one or two lottery picks next season. The future is bright, even it does not feel that way right now.

Happy to know that they are just being pre-cautious. If he needs surgery, let's get it done ASAP. And I'm glad they are still offering him an extension. We live and we die by Embiid.

Good info in this short video. I hope we can get Embiid on a Curry like deal but I think Embiid will try to become RFA so he can potentially get more money. I think it's worth the risk to sign him long term and hope we get a bargain like the Warriors did with Curry. And if Embiid does in fact keep only playing fewer than 40 games per season then his reduced contract would be THAT bad and hamstring us.

I think you can build a team that can make the playoffs (pretty comfortably) with Embiid playing 40 games a year. What's important is that he is healthy for the playoffs. People should also remember that his coordination is not where it needs to be. This is a guy who's body looked significantly different the last time he played competitive basketball. He grew two more inches and put on a lot of muscle mass. Take the changes in body and combine them with not playing competitive basketball for two years and it is understandable why he had so many awkward landings. Hopefully after this knee gets cleared up and things go smooth he can have some time in the off season to really work on getting his legs under him.

Unless we are lucky enough to land someone like Ayton in the 2018 draft, I don't see a realistic long-term fill in for Embiid at least one that isn't either on a rookie contract or a one or two year deal. Remember we will have to pay all of our high draft picks (with the obvious exception of Okafor) a few years down the road. IMO locking up Embiid, Saric, Simmons, Covington, possibly TJ and our draft pick(s) this year should be our first priority. That's why BC got rid of Noel because he know that he likely would have commanded upwards of 20 million to back-up or fill in for Embiid.

Yeah. We need to lock Embiid up this summer. Do not let him become a restricted FA. We will live ot die with Embiid. Embiid either balls out for us and becomes a HOF or he has an injury plagued career and hardly ever plays for us. He is too good to let him go to another team and then all of a sudden have a healthy career. I would be sick if I saw Embiid beasting out for another team. We just need to come to an agreement this summer. Hopefully he and his agent get scared that he may never be healthy and want the long term security with a lowball offer and we sign him for a cheap deal for someone of his ability.

Once it's all said and done, he'll be back even stronger for next season. He got a taste of the NBA, exceeded everyone's expectations, and will be back to prove them that this wasn't a fluke. I'm not worried at all about him. He needs leg strengthening exercises all summer and will be fine.
