Watching the games, it is shocking that the Fire have had such a bad season. They have serious talent, but the balls don't break their way

They have been really poor this season. Hopefully fans in Chicago can rally around a player or two and hope for better results next season.

A healthy Gilbeto should help.

While it’s the only Decision Day match that will not have a direct bearing on the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs lineup, there are still massive implications ahead when the Chicago Fire play host to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday at Toyota Park. The Red Bulls have already clinched the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference, but now have the Supporters’ Shield ahead of them, which they can claim by matching or bettering the FC Dallas result vs. San Jose, which is now occurring simultaneously. The Red Bulls are coming off a dominant 4-1 win against Philadelphia Union last weekend, while the Fire, eliminated from playoff contention, ended their road season with a 4-0 loss at D.C. United.

Sadly I don't see him selling. Hopefully he can figure out the issues, and move the team closer to the city center too.

Joevin Jones is the one that baffles me the most. He wanted a pay raise, one he deserved, so that means trade him? Even if we really wanted Vincent in the draft, Jones is capable of playing on the wings opposite of Accam.

Despite the loss, it was nice to see an actual head coach rather than potato Yallop. Paunovic adjusted from a 4-2-3-1 into a 3-5-2 at halftime, which helped Igboananike out.

Still, his decision to go with Lampson over Johnson is what cost the Fire the game. I get that Paunovic wants a keeper that can distribute the ball based on the style of play he wants, but Lampson was absolutely terrible at that. He would kick the ball too high in the air for too short of a distance, allowing the NYCFC players to make a play on the ball and regain possession, or he would kick the ball low, but right at a NYCFC player. Also on his short passes, he put his teammates in bad positions where they were immediately being pressured and had to work their way out of it. Lastly, Lampson had no command of his box, did not communicate with his defenders, and did not make himself big to stop some shots. Just a terrible performance by him and hopefully the last time we see him ahead of Johnson.

Brandon Vincent looked really slow. He was getting burned a lot defensively, which seems odd considering speed was suppose to be one of his strengths. Hopefully it was an off day for him, because otherwise the decision to sell Joevin Jones looks even more baffling.

Last point I want to bring up is that the Fire need to invest in their midfield. They have enough allocation money to fix it. Goosens should hopefully help, but there is no depth behind him either. If you want to play a high line, you're going to need to win the midfield battle basically every time. Polster didn't look as good as he did in pre-season and he's really going to need to boss the midfield for the Fire to go anywhere. Cocis is a nice box to box midfielder, no upgrade necessary as long as Polster steps up. Some depth behind Cocis would be nice. The number 10 is going to have to be good, unless we play a double 8 and shift to a 4-3-3, but that guy is going to have to be good as well. I guess Goosens will be that guy, but he's going to need to offer creativity in the middle, while also being capable of retaining possession. I'm intrigued by Adu from Malmö(not the USA Adu) as an option for a double 8, but I believe he said he has higher ambitions than MLS. They are also linked with De Leeuw from the Eredivise, but he's really more of a secondary striker than a midfielder that will retain possession and create chances for others. He can play on the wings though, so I would not oppose seeing him at RW.

Another CB could help too. Meira didn't exactly look great, but I noticed he was the only guy communicating with his backline and goalie. Hopefully with Johnson in there he doesn't have to be the only voice. Another CB would also give us the option of moving Kappelhof to RB which is actually his best position.

went to the home opener, fire v nycfc
lots of action in the game.
ny supporters had a pretty good group there.
was nice to see Pirlo and Mix.

fire need better D
CBs r slow, and didnt seem to make very confident decisions in their play.
FBs were more interested in moving up the field than tracking back.
...maybe by design.
speed is there, finishing is very questionable.

mix was getting a lot of touches.
pirlo was the Holding Mid, almost never chased anyone down or made any defensive plays.

its a 2 hour drive from milwaukee,
but its also the closest mls team to me.
hope to make 1 or 2 more matches this season.

MLS Decision Day

Today for the first time in MLS history all 20 teams will take the field at exactly the same time in the final matchday of the regular season (4 pm ET). It's what will make Decision Day so special.

I never thought the Fire would get this bad. At the bottom of the MLS two years in a row. Sad.

Team made some big improvements over the winter and looked good in the preseason. Maybe no wooden spoon this year?

They should have a much better season, but I still don't see them making the playoffs.

Though it's MLS, so anything can happen.
