He's got another year on his contract. I don't think anyone is even thinking about what it will take to resign him at this point. It will depend on what his role with the team is next year and if he can be more consistent.

If I had to guess right now though I'd say he's not in the long term plans. The bench really needs some consistency and he struggles so much from game to game.

If he agrees to sign the same type contract I'd be more than happy. He has 3 mil/yr contract. With new CBA it is like three times more? So 27 mil/3yr sounds bargain for me.

He's consistent on the defensive end. Bjelica's box score numbers don't do him justice, he proved that he can successfully contain guards on switches and hold his ground against most of the league's PFs, and that's not something you'll see on the stat sheet. Thibs values him highly, he's getting a lot of minutes and I think he's definitely somebody Tom will consider resigning when his contract ends.

You're right. He actually has the highest defensive rating on the team.

Which defensive rating is that?

Defensive rating on NBA.com, I think

NBA.com ratings seem dubious to me. Unless one believes Tyus is a better defender than Dunn and Rubio or Shabazz is one of the top defenders on the team.

I think Shabazz has been one of the top defenders on the team for most of the year actually. But defensive rating isn't about the individual, it's about what impact they make on the team defense overall when they are on the floor.

Tyus-Bjelica-Bazz are all on our second unit and they play reserves most of the time who tend to score less than starters.

There really isnt a good metric for defense.

Stats help, but I think the eye is a better gage.

Smart defender, but physically and athletically overmatched at PF.

I think he would be better defending the SF than PF for us. Wiggs is often guarding the attacking wing offensive player anyways. The wing opposite to wiggs has to be a good team defender to help bridge the frontcourt and backcourt as well as rebound the ball. which I think he can do.

The X for me is Bjellys shot. Whenever I see him with Rubio and Wiggs, they look for him on those drive and kicks. However, he either hesistates or tries to attack the paint when he shouldnt or he flat out misses.

I think him being overmatched is a problem only when you run onto the ZBos and Aldridges of the league. He can handle most of these lighter stretch 4's that are the majority at this position in the league lately. Rotating him and Dieng based on the matchup at PF is a good solution, because Bjelly offers so much defensively when he's not overmatched. I think we should invest our money in a wing that is at least W. Chandler caliber this summer, and keep the rest of the cap space available for the summer of 2018.

If Bjelly improves his J by the end of next season, then by all means extend him if you can.

Wiggins will eat up any 2018 capspace. It's either used in 2017 or it's wasted.

You mean Wiggins AND LaVine. In fact, they probably will have to move Rubio or Dieng by then for sure.

Yeah, that'll be 50 mill per year for those 2. Thats the gamble that could make or break the team. Can these 2 play together? If not, I think they lose value because the other GM's will know it. Then things might be in a pickle and have to trade the guy with the better return just like the choice Philly had to make between Noel and okafor.

Rubio is on great contract while dieng isn't a great deal, he isn't overpaid either.

And agree that the money has to be spent this off season.

I guess don't necessarily agree with that. It's too early to know whether they can play together for 30 minutes a night or not. If they can't, you can still have both of them and cut that down to 20 minutes by moving LaVine to that super 6th man role.

Okafor/Noel are different because both have pretty big warts on their track record.

And if it completely doesn't work, they both still individually have value and there will multiple teams wanting them.

a 25 mil contract is kind of rich for a super sub though.

Definitely, but does it matter that much if that 6th man is still around 30 minutes a game? I hate to compare him to a player as good as Manu, but he was making 15-20% of the cap as a 6th man for the Spurs for a while. It's possible.

Gino was a beast (though injury prone). I doubt LaVine will ever have same positive effect for his team(s).
