Miami Heat

Post#1 » by Upperclass » Tue Mar 7, 2017 3:13 pm

So are we just going to sit here and ignore the fact that this talent-less team, has somehow won 13 in a row from mid-Jan to mid Feb, while also beating Houston, GS, and Cleveland twice in the past few months. While also losing to Orlando repeatedly.

Are they bound for the playoffs? And how the hell are they winning games suddenly??

I wouldn't say their talentless but they've definitely found a niche with their roster this season. It's the defense that has carried them. 4th in the league right now.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

I don't really know much about the Heat this year but what they have done is so very confusing. They were all in on tanking and then at the worst possible time they started a 13 game win streak. WITH Dion Waiters. I don't even know what they are trying to do at this point but I will eat my own hat at calling Spo one of the most overrated coaches. Credit where credit is due. He's done something fairly amazing this year with that roster of cast-offs and rando's.

Coach Spo has gotten them to out-work their opponents and win games on sheer grit. There's simply no other way they can win with this roster.

They play excellent defense and their roster is chock full of three point shot makers. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that they've won over 30 games to this point.

19-4 over their past 23 games, including wins against GS, Cleveland (2x), and Houston (2x), and losses to Orlando (2x), Philly, and Dallas.

Spo should get more credit for getting so much from so little. I won't claim to be an expert regarding his Xs and Os but Carlisle and Pop might be the only other two coaches that have consistently got as much from average NBA players as him (not just young ones, Whiteside, JJ, Deng last season).

I always think defence is a good indication (not always, but mostly) for how well a team is coached, and off the top of my head the Heat are 5-10th.

Heat’s Spoelstra in Coach of the Year conversation, says Mavs coach Carlisle
“They have taken the players that are available and gotten in and conceptually put together one of the best ball movement drive and kicking teams that I’ve seen in 33 years in this league,” Carlisle said. “They’ve got Whiteside on the inside rebounding and rolling and posting up.

“Dragic and Waiters are both playing at an All-Star level, and their role players are knocking down shots. We better have happy feet tonight on defense or we’re going to be in trouble.”

This board is cancer, the original post tells me you know nothing about basketball. Basketball fans are getting dumber by the minute, I blame the media and analytics. I advised you to buy a league pass and actually watch all the games, in fact watch it multiple times, analyze and study the game and educate yourselves because this is crazy. I can't believe football fans are more knowledgeable about their sport than basketball fans now a days.

It's Willie Reed. He is +16 during streak and team loses when he goes down.

(Just kidding, check my avatar.)

Do you define talentless as anyone who isn't an All Star? Quite naïve.

I don't want to be disrespectful, But Luke F**king Babbit and Josh McGruder starts for them

What Dragic/Waiters.Whiteside do for them is...Well i cant explain. They have some obvious holes, They won't win anything, But jesus Christ they play hard, well coached.

And to think that they've got $24 million sidelined.

Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra: turning scrubs into serviceable players since 1997.

McGruder is actually developing into a pretty nice player. And to ignore the bench, with Ellington, and the Johnson boys, with contributions from Okaro White and Willie Reed is a bit short sighted.

The team is balanced from top to bottom, with Babbitt the only guy who really shouldn't get any playing time. White and Reed are definitely lesser guys on the team but both have flashed and warrant time given the niche they fill.

Miami is where they are because they play with a chip on their shoulders, they buy into Spo's system, and he's utilizing them correctly. They move the ball incredibly well, play unselfishly (yes, even Dion), and utilize their athleticism to play very tight defense.

James Johnson has been playing point forward. Rodney McGruder deserves defensive team consideration and rookie team recognition, he is a relentless lockdown defender. Tyler Johnson is a maniac. Dion Waiters has been clutch and is proving everyone wrong, he's been one of the best if not THE best free agency pickups in basketball. Dragic has been playing like he did in Phoenix when he was the lead guard, maybe even better and Whiteside hasn't let up after receiving a big deal.

In the strangest turn of events, I have taken a liking to the Heat after one of my good friends started working for them. I've been to a few games and have sat pretty much right on the bench. Haslem has been awesome as a leader. Juwan Howard has a future as a head coach. Spo deserves all the credit that he never got when he was coaching the super friends.
Go Knicks!
