Re: Community Thread LXI: The President We Deserve
Yep, there's a leash law here too, but the general public seems to think it's crap.
Irony = These idiots stop and bag their dogs poop in the park and then toss the bags into the bushes. I know, because the nature trails around the park go through those bushes and the little doggy bags are everywhere.
I'm just going to go ahead and blame it all on the Millennials ... The pride/shame balance seems to be all effed up in that group.

Well then try this on... Wife told me today that the web site the city set up about creating a fenced in, no leash area at the park, now has a big push from people to fence off the playground instead... "Why don't you fence in the kids instead."
Look I get that as a joke... But it went viral and has become an actual thing now...
Yeah, we have a fenced in area for the kids... It's called "The Park."
I get that for many people, their dogs are their kids... But every time I go into Home Depot or Lowes, there are dogs fighting in there...
In fact, I went to Sprouts the other day with my kids and these 2 couples had pit bulls in there just leading them around, my daughter tried to pet one, and another lady snapped at her not to touch the dogs because "They're in training." I asked her if they were assistant dogs or therapy dogs and she said "No" and walked away. When I was leaving, I saw her van and looked up the website... She specialized in 'Socializing' problem dogs. Sprouts had no idea who she was...
Like I said, I like dogs... But there's a certain social responsibility involved in ownership.
Not sure if it's like that everywhere, but Texas in general is a pretty self-righteous place, and Austin thinks of itself as the Intellectual Elite/Ruling Class of Texas... Some of the stuff they do here would can make anyone with logical thinking ability want to scream.

i say get a bunch of rottweilers and just let them run wild without a leash at the park or where ever and see how people feel about that

i think its not that bad here. although i'm near the heart of downtown so there isn't really any parks for kids to play nearby that i know of. don't know what its like in the suburbs where i imagine those are
there is a dog park nearby though, just a small fenced in area where dogs can run around without a leash (and some things for them to climb on/run under, etc)

Damn it, Roy.
Wow I didn't think there are those types of insensitive, irresponsible dog owners. At least they're not eating them.

It's weird man... It all seems to be happening at once...
In fact today, after I dropped my oldest at school, I came home to find a really nice boxer hanging out in my yard. I went inside thinking he was just another of the off leash walkers and his owner would catch up to him shortly... But I came back later and found him curled up on my door mat. 'Walter' had tags and numbers to call... We called them, left messages and waited, and finally the owner returned the call... She said, "Oh yeah, he likes to explore... Just let him go and he'll eventually come home."
My wife asked the lady if we could just bring him home because she'd be upset if he got hit by a car. The lady finally agreed to let us take him home and put him in the back yard while she was at work... When I dropped him off, she lived on a pretty busy street and had no more than 3 foot tall chain link fences around her yard... Walter looked upset that I brought him home... I'm sure he was out again not long after I pulled out of the drive way.
I enjoyed hanging out with Walter and all... He was a cool dog. But I'm the kind of person that dies a little inside when I see animals hit on the roads... So I just don't really understand the apathetic attitude, or the thought process that says your stray dog is everyone else's responsibility.

I guess I should point out we just moved back into the suburbs about a year and a half ago after living 11 years on acreage in the country... Before that we lived in Whittier Ca... All I can say is a lot seems to have changed with regard to being a good neighbor and pet owner... Even compared to the gang bangers we used to live next to...

It's cool to have land, especially if you like working outside a lot. But figure multiply whatever work you're doing on your current place by the percentage larger the new place is... And then maybe double it some times of the year... There was stuff I wanted to do when I moved into that house, I still haven't done 10 years later... And stuff that happened during our stay that I never had time to take care of...
And more land doesn't mean fewer issues with neighbors... Not by a long shot. Sometimes literally.

Watching Will Smith's "Concussion". ****'s deep. I wonder if there is really any truth to this and how this can affect any sport involving high impact and intense contact moves.

Me too, a badly faked accent is the first thing that turns me off from a movie.

Honestly I didn't even notice it til half of the movie.
Got hooked when he started shaving the brain of one of the football players and just looked past the terrible accent. Props to him though, channeling his emotions while focusing on keeping that accent takes talent.
