One thing you wish each player would learn in the off season???

Post#1 » by SlimShady83 » Thu Mar 9, 2017 11:04 am

So I've decided to finally start another thread as it's been quite a while as
I usually just post in the game threads :)

So what's this thread about?

As the title says - If you could pick one thing for everyone OR just a few players to learn
in the offseason what would it be???

You can choose as many players as you want but you can only choose one thing
for them learn.

I'm just curious to know who says what and what's the most important for all :)

I'll get the ball rolling.

* JC: Really needs to learn to pass, I don't care if the passes don't connect
as long as he passes a lot more 5 or more times a game would be nice LOL

* Dlo: Dlo really needs to control his passes and not try to be too fancy -
and stop those behind the back passes, passes over 2-3 players accross the key
- we don't really have players that can catch his passes.

As much as I'd love him to learn D I don't think it will happen, his not that type
of player so might as well fix his offense right?

* Randle: I'd love for him to learn the "Tim Duncan" Jumpshot at the top of the key
If he can work on his jump shot he'll be a 20-10 type of guy in no time:)

That shall get the ball rolling :) < might get a laugh or two but that's all good :) it's all in good fun after all.

Hopefully something new and different for the forum ???

- Randle needs to improve driving and shooting with his right hand.
- BI needs to bulk up some, not too much, and keep working on his 3s.
- Clarkson needs to work on his 3s.
- BI, Zubac and TRob need to get more comfortable shooting the FTs.

The whole team needs to work on defense instensity.

Ingram needs to learn to eat more than half a meal a day!

(Insert player's name here): he needs to learn to play defense.

D'angelo - he needs to work on finishing. Whether its finishing at the rim or hitting the open shot
Julius - develop his right hand
Clarkson - I think he needs to work on his handles. To me his handles hold him back and he has no counter moves. He likes to lower his head and drive to the rim. Needs counter moves/crossovers
Ingram - I think he needs to work on...working with Kobe the whole offseason
Zubac - Strength/explosiveness

I would say the whole team needs to work on defense, but I also can't help thinking that the lack of defense is part of Luke's tank strategy

If Randle was Right Handed... Would anyone be saying anything about essentially a second year player using his left hand?
Much bigger need for Randle is learning how to create separation and drain mid range jumpers... If he could develop Dirks falling J, or any of Kobe's post moves, nobody would even notice he drives a lot with his left.

Ingram and Zubac need to work on strength and agility...
Russell needs to work on agility and fitness/stamina...

Nance needs to work on developing a quick release jumper... If he could be a catch and shoot guy, or our 3 and D guy off the bench, he'd create a lot of flexibility for us. He also needs to work on Defensive fundamentals, especially in the post. Right now, he gets owned by pretty much anyone who bodies him up.

I think most of them have solid Defensive fundamentals, most of the problems on D have to do with poor reads and nonexistant communication... I see it more of a Team Defense problem. They all need to work together on that this summer.

Like others said.. Unless we convert some of our assets into a dynamic scorer who's virtually unstoppable 1:1 like George or Butler, this team is going to have to focus on being a young, Defense First, hard nosed team that generates fast break offense out of defensive stops. We should be swarming and taking away lanes and playing unselfish D, instead of focusing primarily on Offense.

That's what young legs are for... Especially if they can't out-score anyone.

Exactly ... Is there a word for people being a little biased against Left handers? lol.'

Edit: Is Tim Duncan's better then Dirks falling J??? I don't think he'd be able to do Dirks shot more of a chance of Duncan's though :)

They could at least keep the games close and play with heart and just tank in the final quarter - they start sucking real bad when that 3rd quarter. But yeh Team Defense needs a work with a lot of communication, Individual D isn't too bad < not great, but not bad.

I'll parrot what everyone else has said and say that EVERYONE needs some lessons on how to defense properly.

As for what the other young guys need to do:

Russell: Stay in attack mode the majority of the time, less of that passive stuff.

Clarkson: DON'T stay in attack mode all the time, learn to move the ball.

Randle: Midrange jump shot.

Ingram: Just gain weight.

D'Angelo: If there's a Wizard of Oz who can coach "Mentality" -- That's what D'Lo needs. On the court wise: fine tuning his shooting mechanics.

Ingram: Strength.

Randle: Jump shot.

Zubac: NBA style strength and conditioning.

Ingram: Consistent three point shooting, and add some muscle.

Russell: Better shooting percentages, learn how to get into the paint more, and sharpen his dribble a little bit more.

Randle: Outside shooting, and try to put more effort on defense.

Zubac: Bulk Up! Get big. That is all. Work on some shooting, but get big.

Nance Jr.: Outside shooting.

Clarkson: Spot up three point shooting.

I prefer Dirk's. But if Randle could just develop a consistent perimeter game and finish I see him more of a Karl Malone than Tim and Dirk.

D'Angelo : Be ready with decision-making steps ahead before you get the ball instead of dribbling pointlessly before going iso. (you know, stuff that a real PG is supposed to do...)
Randle : Make a pass for once after your power-move draws attention.
Clarkson : you've got athleticism, now practice intelligent defense.
Ingram : beef up, and bring shot a little more in front, instead of behind your head...
Zubac : screw what people are saying about getting beefy. I would work on core, getting lean and mean, and explosive from the hips.
Nance : your shot has improved, so actually take that mid-range shot, make it a threat, instead of swiveling around and shovel-passing to your ball-hungry guards.
Black : I don't know what to say, Tarik. I like you, but I think you may be close to your ceiling or already hit it.
Nawaba : I agree, work on your shot.

Randle: Every time you get the rebound you don't have to push it recklessly.
