A combo of Murton, Guzman, Cedeno, and another solid pitching prospect maybe Mateo?
IMO if the Cubs get Griffey to play RF and he stays healthy they should have a real good shot at winning the WS.
What would it take to get Griffey???

If they dealt Griffey for vets, it would be a confusing move. The Reds have no chance to contend anytime soon. They have a decent farm system with some players ready to make the jump (Bruce and Votto are both very highly regarded hitters). The have a really good pitching prospect in Bailey (was #1 pitching prospect overall last year). They should go in a full rebuilding mode, trade Jr. and Dunn, and build around these prospects and Brandon Phillips.
They have no chance to be above mediocre in the next couple years, might as well fully commit to a young team. I'm not saying they will since there are a lot of bad GM's and owners out there, but it's the best step for the franchise.

Well I meant young guys who can play right now, meaning, they didn't want a bunch of A and AA prospects who were still a couple years away.
Guys like Murton and Cedeno for example, are young guys who very well could contribute if given enough PT. Obviously some prospects would be involved, but they'd more than likely be AAA guys and others who could contribute sooner rather than later.

Yeah, but that's what I meant by "vets." I can see how that's confusing, in my head I meant veteran prospects. Like, Murton is in his prime right now (supposedly) and Guzman and Cedeno are both 25 IIRC.
I mean they should go after high-upside, raw prospects. I don't think any of Murton/Guzman/Cedeno/etc will ever be more than average ball players. And getting guys like that isn't going to make them contendors. If I was their GM, I'd rather take chances on guys who could be superstars rather than these average stopgaps. But I really just don't think they can compete right now, or in the next couple years. Most of their top prospects will get into their prime in 4-5 years, that should be their target. Of course, selling an owner and fanbase on that kind of plan is easier said than done.
