Papagiannis is looking better and better

Post#1 » by FrodoBaggins » Sat Mar 4, 2017 4:39 pm

Keep slimmin' down big dog. Very impressed by his defense.. Was able to contain some dribble penetration. Very impressed by that block, then he was the first guy up the court to contest a rebound his teammates miss. Skills are highly polished, hands silky smooth. Jumper wet.

Just needs to continue this path. Lose about another 10-20 pounds of baby fat, keep putting on good muscle weight... Only 19. He could turn out to be a bigger Koufos with soft hands and range.

Brings good old school traditional center style to our youth rotation with athletic springy bigs like WCS/Skal.

The best thing about it is his hustle and speed in transition.
The jumper is always going to come along, but the other parts of his game need to continue to get a lot better.
I really don't like those half hooks that far out, never been a fan of them to be honest and it always looks like a forced move gone wrong whenever a player does it. That's just me I guess.
However he just needs to show that he is learning, always said he is going to need 3 years of development (even then he is only going to be 22!) at least and then we can make a judgment on him.

He's got the physical tools. He has quickness that a person that size shouldn't. Now it's up to him to fill in the blanks. I want to see him get significant minutes with the big club sooner than later.

Interesting you say that cause straight away just from the way he moves and the way he hustled (I know they are totally different players) he reminded me of gigantic more skilled version of Tyler Hansbourgh.

I'd much rather see him taking those right hooks for the Kings than Koufos. He's 19 and already looks like he'd be better than Koufos on the court.

Why isn't he getting Koufos minutes again?

Starting to see a little confidence. I need a lot more than what I'm seeing tho. D league is a good spot for him to finish the season.

I could only watch the first half of this one, however there were some good and bad points.
The good, he is getting more confidence and his movement (apart from the mentioned part below) is generally good.
It is also clear he is working on a lot of different moves including a dirk step back.
His passing out of double teams and passing in general looks decent.
The bad, well there is a lot for him to work on. His interior defence is quite poor and recovery is non existent. Bites on every pump fake and as said, his recovery is poor.
Rebounding is a huge concern, he doesn't have any sort of feel for if. Doesn't box out hard enough and doesn't assert himself as a defensive or offensive rebounder.
His hands need a lot of work as well, he loses the ball way to often on a pass or going up for a shot.
He has a long way to go, but the improvements he has made is fantastic and I think another season doing a similar thing (between Bighorns and Kings) will only benefit him.
