funny - a lot of folks remember him as a radio personality but earlier he was the TV color guy before he and Clyde switched places. They'd do the halftime highlights summary together and at the end he would always tell Clyde to "be good on the radio." Knicks had a long stretch of being blessed with a great commentating team.

Damn that really takes me back. Used to love Johnny Hoops. A sad day indeed.

RIP.

Andariese and Marv, along with Walt are the 3 best commentators in Knicks history.

RIP to a legend.

Damnit. Was hoping he'd pull thru when Breen announced he was sick a Lil bit ago. As many of you said he will always be a legend within Knicks fan eyes. His voice was smooth, soothing easy to listen to. R.I.P

I always enjoyed his analysis even though the FO didn't. RIP.

From the news story, it appears that he had been suffering from dementia, which is a horrible way to go.

My sympathies to his family and friends.

yeah, when breen mentioned it on the broadcast you could tell it wasn't good. he sounded pretty shaken up.

he's been off the radar for a while, so he's not getting the shine he deserves. went to the ESPN site hoping for a page or a banner or something. the man was one of their first NBA color guys... maybe their first IIRC.

not to nitpick, but johnny and clyde are the color commentators. marv is a play-by-play guy. as are breen and gus.

some of the great PBP who worked alone basically did both.

RIP Johnny Hoops. Thanks for all the great memories. Nothing like listening to you and Marv on the radio when we couldn't get games on TV.

very sad to hear and that he was suffering from dementia. must have been hard for him to enjoy his remaining days. He brought so much to the table. And paired with Gus Johnson, it was a great contrast in styles. Johnny Hoops was a great listen. RIP
