It's very nice to see D'angelo hitting the 3 better. We gotta get better at that. I think we're like 26% as a team this year?? Something pretty bad.
I'm glad Zubac has been doing well too.

26% as a team?? Wow that is terrrrrrrible man. Magic needs to get some three point shooters this offseason.

Well it says were like 35% Im not sure how they get that total. I see 2 lakers in the top 100 in the NBA. Young is #26 with .404 , and DLO is #96 at .359....so I don't see how we're at 35% as a team. I'll have to double check.

Yeah....says we're 34.7%
I guess you had Lou for most of the season. Between Lou, D'Lo and Young...that's prob 80% of them taken...so it prob averages out. Ok. Fair enough....there's room for imrovement...but its not super crappy
#22 in the league. So certainly not "good"

We have to find out what the percentage is w/out Russell, Young, and Williams. I'm not sure how we can find it, but I bet its really bad.

https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/team/los-angeles-lakers/stats
That page has a pretty good breakdown of our shooting. It has your ranking as well. You'll see we're #21 - #24 in a huge bulk of the stats..(#4 in FG - attempted!)....and sadly there's a handful of #30 for opponents shooting stats.
We're a 20-win team. Prob shouldn't come as a shock to most that it looks like that.

Re: Game 71: Los Angeles Clippers (42-29) @ Los Angeles Lakers (20-50) - 10:30 PM ET
Alright....well we attempt 26.4 3-pointers a game (does that sound right? That seems SO HIGH....) Take away Russell, Young, Lou and that's 18.5.....So there are 7.9 attempts for the rest of the team. We make 9.2 per game. Get rid of those 3 and its 7.0 made. So 2.2 made for the rest.
Ah jeez....this math. So what percent is 2.2 of 7.9? Let me bust out a calculator. Off my head, it looks like about 30%

Yeah. Clarkson take half of the remaining pie...and shoots .330 So that drops the rest down to prob like 20%
Ingram was .289
I don't even want to know what Deng did. It'll just give me heartburn

It's an interesting stat, actually: So we take 26 3-pointers a game. and we're 34.7% which makes us #22.
Ok....so #1 is San-Antonio, who shoots 39.5%. So like 5% better. If we made 1 additional 3-pointer a game....there's essentially a 4% improvement, right? So that puts us right ahead or behind #2 (Cavs) who have 38.8%.
1 a game. It's a game of inches at that level...isn't it?

I'm impressed by the Clippers. I do wonder if they can finally surprise and make a deep run in the playoffs. I mean, they looked real good, or was it because we are just soooo bad. How do we go from having a respectable game against the defending champs to this? Ahhhh....young teams I guess...plus the tank too

The difference in us and good teams is a whole lot more than 1 3 pointer a game. Thus is the folly of singular stats...
When SA makes them is the difference. The late season stats we've put up both individually and collectively are skewed by the length of time we play in complete garbage time. We are playing our starters against second and third teams late in games and that pushes up our stats. Situations, opponents on the floor (not team stats against) and pressure.
Look at the Cleveland game. We were lights out early when Cle was coasting. In the 4th they tightened up their defense and took away just about everything. A team like SA still hits shots in that situation we didn't even get them off. So in one little abstract stat you can say we're 1 3 pointer from being good but reality is just a little different.

Hey...I'm in a good mood, and having some fun...so please don't take it serious when I say: "No sh** man"
Damn....you think your ol' boy is rockin' a 5-watt bulb or something...jeez!
OF COURSE I don't think we're a made 3-pointer from holding steady with the Spurs. I'm just talking about the singular stat...and how close the margins are. When you hear "we're 22nd in 3-point percentage"....you kinda think in your head that we're like half as good as the top teams. But it's really not that bad.
It's the "perception" that's so funny. You go from "man....this team sucks at shootin 3's" .....to....."Dude we're 2nd best in the league...wtf are you even talking about?!" with just one more of our 26 attempts each game falling.

I think you can stop at this team sucks. 3 point shooting is the least of our looooong list of problems.
I'm not against stats and I use some modified versions quite a bit in coaching. I hate the so called advanced stats in the way that they are used because they are nothing more than derivatives of flawed individual stats IMHO. They can tell you somethings but in all reality most of the stats we follow in Pro Sports were the invention of Agents and owners/leagues trying to quantify individual performance to negotiate contracts. Fantasy sports has exploded the garbage in garbage out is stats these days. In a vacuum they are interesting but when you apply as a basis for creating a team I think the current data sets are deeply flawed. They were not created for that purpose.
The delta on a lot of stats is not much different than team 3 point shooting when you look at them. If anything it proves that maybe that stat is not that important when a team as bad as us is 1 made 3 pointer a game from SA. We're not just 4% worse than they are.

My man...I think your throwing like 8 layers of TMI to my statement. I was in no way shape or form using 3-point shooting to compare anything to anyone. MY POINT.....is the best 3-point shooting team is 39.4% and the worst is 32.2%.
Thats it. Don't take those numbers and run off anywhere with them. Thats all there is. No Delta's...no proves....no comparisons.
When I think "The best 3-point shooting team in the NBA" vs "the worst 3-point shooting team in the NBA"....you assume there's this MASSIVE gap. Before all of this....I woulda thought something like GS on top with like 42-44% .....and some team down near 20%. You know what I mean? But in actuality, It's only 7% It's like 1.5 makes a game difference. It's pretty crazy when you think of it like that.
That all.....I'm not going down any paths with this. Was just sort a perspective-thingie.
