1) Is Bogdanovic going to be back?
2) Is it going to affect the Porter signing?
3) Is he worth going into luxury tax for?
How Bogdanovic performs up to and including the playoffs has relatively little meaning to me, and strikes me as largely cosmetic otherwise.
The draft is a crapshoot in general and even more so once picks get into the twenties. There's always the chance that somebody slips however and some of the guys you mention like Raab, Giles and Leaf could have very well been available with a bit of maneuvering.
Washington's problem for years has been that the Wizards simply haven't been able to stop the bleeding with poor drafts and continually mortgaging the future by trading away future draft picks.
Guys like Swanigan, Motley, Adebayo, Lydon etc. might have limited upside, but they're also the type of guys that might have helped us avoid the signing of guys like Nicholson and perhaps more ideally even somebody like Mahinmi in the first place.
Under Grunfeld the Wizards are stuck in a vicious cycle of paying for past mistakes with terrible free agent guesses/contracts and panic deadline deals precisely because of how unproductive they have been in the draft.
Ah yes, well, where are all the paeans to Bojan these days, I wonder? Shall I list the names of all of you who were gloating over the tremendous player we'd acquired? Including a few who suggested that keeping him might make it ok not to re-sign Otto Porter? Or, better yet, why don't you all check in here & identify yourselves & how wrong you were?
Then there are the guys who maintained that in picking up Chris McCullough, we got the equivalent of the R1 pick we gave up.
The trade had nothing to do with acquiring Bogdanovic. Nothing to do with acquiring McCullough. Nothing to do with getting better for the playoffs. The trade had one goal for Ernie: "bury my mistake." The one thing Ernie does well -- and, really it's about the only thing he can be counted on for -- is manage his owner. With this trade, he has once again figured that out.

I'm seeing the whole "bench help" pretext as being a clever ruse.
I do think people are somewhat underrating Bojangles, though. I accidentally forgot to erase the recent Nets game, which I watched a bit of after hearing the rumors. He's not too bad and could easily go up in efficiency if receiving less defensive attention - he can certainly shoot and has some fairly deceptive ability to put the ball on the floor. He is a bad defender, but I think a bigger issue is that he really doesn't look anything like a 2-guard with his body type.
Anyway, the merits of Bojangles seem well secondary to just dumping Nicholson in a manner that's murky enough in basketball terms to confuse at least some of the critics. Classic Grunfeld.
*ok, while also gaining the services of Huckleberry Hound for 3 years.

Jesus that was bugging me for a bit.
And I forget the prior screen name too.
Dame, I loose my cover right when I was getting in a grove.
I was wondering who you were. I knew the posting style seemed familiar. Glad to have you back around bro!
And yes Doc, you are damn good.

On another note, Bogs is exactly what detractors said he was. The less he plays the better. I would have zero interest in retaining him beyond this season.

I would retain him, but Gortat would have to go to avoid the tax.
Bogdan isn't great, but I can appreciate his shooting.

That's assuming Gortat doesn't decline drastically like he's supposed to.

Morris was awful last season, and was not very good for his first 20 games this season before turning into the Power Forward we need. However, over the last 15 games, he has regressed to his career norms.
I am indifferent about keeping Bogdanovic. However, if the Wizards are intent on keeping Bogdanovic, Morris is the player that I would get rid of to clear salary.

Interesting that Bojan had 14 points points on 12 shots which wasn't all that great but I would have expected a worse performance from him given that he didn't hit any of his 3s; and he did manage to grab 6 boards. With Bojan on the floor, the Wizards were +13. The reality is that the starters were severely outplayed.

You add Bojan to the cavs and play him over Lebron it looks terrible.
GM move/Bojan are not the problem.

What?
There are only a limited number of players that Bogdanovic is capable of taking minutes away from, and he has taken minutes from almost all of those players. EG got a player who is not that good and who is arguably worse than most of the players that he is taking minutes from. I don't know who you expect for Bogdanovic to take minutes from that would make the Wizards a better team.

Smith/Morris/Jennings.

Can't have it both ways. Smith/Morris/Jennings are the ones you want to lose minutes, but in reality Sato/Oubre have been the ones taking a major hit in minutes.

Jennings is a pg. Until Bogdanovic is capable of playing pg, I would say this is a non starter.
He has taken minutes from Smith and Morris. On the season, Morris has been better than Bogdanovic. Since the trade, they are both equally bad. Smith has been better than Bogdanovic for the season, and since the trade.

Bojan is struggling a bit over the last few games but his TS % with the Wizards is still at 65%.

Re: Woj: Nets trade Bogdanovic to Wizards
Bogdanovic gets in trouble when he's doing anything other than catching and shooting.
He does manage to finish around the rim on drives occasionally but more often than not he gets himself in trouble as soon as he gets into traffic and either gets the ball stripped or throws a lazy pass into traffic that gets intercepted.
I'd really like to see him strictly featured on spot ups or cuts, putting the ball in his hand with the expectation that he's going to manufacture points just doesn't seem to be working in our favor.

Thanks, guys - great to see the forum old guard still going strong and able to enjoy some competent basketball (well, some nights anyway).
I got back to the States, so its within the realms of possibility to watch games again on my end; watching 7 AM Ukrainian pirate feeds while a fussy toddler tries to eat hair curlers or League Pass on 2 MBPS wasn't hackin' it there.
I missed a number of games with a health issue just now and need to catch up (got about 10 games on the DVR and I can't really get on the TV couch 'till I'm non-contagious).
I'll be around, though!

If you were lurking at all in the interim, you probably saw all the "Where the eff is Hoopalotta?" posts. We've apparently (at least temporarily) lost Nivek and fishercob in recent months, and really need new of smart, funny posters.
