Post#1 » by LakersSoul » Wed Mar 22, 2017 11:24 am

With the season winding down, how about some quiz for the true Lakers fans. Please chip in with your own questions. I will start with a semi-difficult one. Please list your question with the setup like below:

Quiz:

NBA started naming the NBA Defensive Player of the Year starting in 1982-1983 season. Since the inception, how many Lakers have been given the title of NBA Defensive POY? Who was/were he/they?

Not Yo Ham Lakers!

Actually both of these are harder than I'd have imagined without checking basketball reference.

I don't think Kareem ever won the DPOY so my guess would be George Mikan as the latter eras were all dominated by Bill Russell.

The last two Lakers PGs to make the ASG, my guess would be NVE and Magic.

Did they have the award back in the Mikan and Russell eras? Also, I think Cooper won it once or twice and I like your PG picks of NVE and Magic...

Yeah I'm not sure if they had DPOY in Mikan's era. I was going to guess Coop but he played in an era dominated by bigs so I didn't think it was likely for a guard to win it before MJ and Payton came along.

Good job on the Cooper call!! He was a defensive speciality! He won it only once and no other Lakers have won the DPOY title since.

After a severe ankle sprain how many points, rebounds and blocks did Kareem get in the 4th quarter of game 5 of the finals in 1980.

This performance has been overshadowed by what happened in Game 6 but I think it was the best effort ever by an injured player to will a team to a series win.
