I look at the players below the average and I see a couple of rookies and 3 guys who rarely pass due to their role or overall game. I do not think the assist to turnover rates are as telling on a team by team basis but more on a role by role basis compared against players playing similar roles for other teams.

Nelson doesn't commit many turnovers, hence why he is starting. Mudiay has improved but still commits too many for Malone's liking.

Murray needs more minutes at PG. Right now we don't KNOW that he could be better because the coach uses Barton as the backup PG. Many fans THINK Murray will be a better PG than Nelson. I'll give Nelson credit that he has finally started playing more in the team offense, but he still thinks he must take the last shot of every quarter with no play, just a pick. If he'd stop thinking of himself as a shooting guard, he can actually make some decent passes.

But my biggest complaint about Nelson is on defense. He tends to try to take the shortest route, even if it means pushing through a big, which he can't do. His defensive IQ is not very high in many respects.
