That's called hypocrisy. If you're cheering for the team to be crap then you've lost your right to act like you'er some superior magic fan for not joking about them being tragic. What you're doing is no better... in fact it's worse because you're attacking fellow fans. How about stick to criticizing this awful team for producing an awful product and not the hardcore fans who have to put up with it.

And speaking of hypocrisy, didn't you have Rob in your avi pretty much since he was hired? Up until recently when you started drinking a certain someone's hatorade. You also went out of your way to defend him over the years, but now like it's a new trend you chit all over him.

I'm not drinking anyone's "hatorade," so not sure what you're talking about. I actively supported the Hennigan that collected assets/talent in years 1-3... not the Hennigan who didn't know what to do with those assets, wasted them and overpaid backups to replace them in years 4-5. He did a solid job in phase 1 of the rebuild, but once he moved on to phase 2 he got exposed imo. I gave him a fair shake to prove he knew what he was doing once he started making some very questionable moves, but we all know the result now. Recognizing that and reacting appropriately doesn't make me a hypocrite. FYI the only reason I had him as my avi was because I thought his beaver smile was hilarious... I changed it for poopergate, so clearly I don't take my avis too seriously. But yeah, keep knocking fans for making tragic jokes while you actively root for the team to be... tragic.

More importantly we need a compete rebrand with or without the Magic name, a change to Black/White/Navy in that order. Less boring corporate visuals, some cool effects on the court and with lighting (like at Barclay's arena) that's exciting. At the moment it's just boring, everything, on and off the court

Our whole problem is we don't have any stars!

Yeah, plus there are two WNBA teams with that name (stars and starzz). Would be really bad timing to go with that while we're star-less and playing poorly...

I would take Tropics or Juice, IMO. The latter an ode to Rashard and Turk.

Did the poll get created after I created this topic or before that?

Well we are the Magic so why would someone mention the Magic when we are already the Magic? Miami Heat have the heat nickname so that name is out also for us.

Orlando Tropics or Orlando Juice sounds silly for a professional franchise.

How about this name that someone mentioned before in this topic? Orlando United !

Especially after the Pulse night club shooting, Orlando United would be a approriate change of nickname for us.

I think the 2 best finalists right now are United than Storm

That poll was in 1989.

I definitely don't think the Magic is our best nickname possible now I think about United and Storm. Our nickname looks good when we had shaq, penny, skiles, etc and were a top team in the eastern conference but than it crashed, the nickname "Magic" doesn't look good when you drop off. We look like "magic" we landed the #1 draft pick and selected Dwight Howard and eventually made it to the Nba finals with Dwight Howard, than we drop off again and there's no "magic". This year there's no "magic" or nothing magical about this team. The nickname "Magic" looks really good when we are in a top team but the nickname drops off the worse we perform. Also our nickname is really good when we make a good trade, make the right draft picks or sign the right free agents, but when we miss than there's no "magic". Our nickname is inconsistent whether we are doing really good or really bad. Our nickname "Magic" seems to jinx us in certain situations.

Orlando United or Orlando Storm comes off better whether we became the best team in the NBA or the worst team in the NBA.

Orlando Turtles XD

The Orlando Crackers. Curiously named after one of the two state tortoises. We could work a horse into the logo somewhere.

What sucks for us is that were stuck in a weird place, there is obviously a connection to Disney but copyrights prohibit us from going too far down that route.

I agree. It's even worse because public outcry caused the Wizards to change their name from the Bullets(unique name I might add). Even worse because of the Arenas-Crittenton incident that they won't likely change back. It's hard to represent Magic when there is a team called the Wizards. At least they changed their logo to a standard ball design instead of that cool Wizard casting a spell over a basketball moon.

The only idea I can run with is Magic Wands in a design perspective.

I don't recall any outcry against the Bullets naming. It was just a personal decision by the owner at the time.

I think a simple change like Orlando Magicians could work. It's possible to create a simple logo with some cool looking magician guy, he can look menacing or nefarious and make his opponents disappear into thin air. He can also pull Ws from his hat and do all sorts of neat tricks on opposing teams to confuse them and keep them guessing. Magicians are mysterious and never reveal their tricks and we can take on an identity where we play with a cunning style to outsmart our opponents.

also maybe it makes sense to expand our team geography. Why not rename to Central Florida Magic. the coasts are <90 miles away and it could give fans on both sides to become part of the team. It's a bit more inclusive and could expand the fanbase out.

I don't want the team to change their nickname. But, the nostalgic person in me wishes that they never did away with the original expansion unis. I feel like those have aged well and could have been a trademark uniform.

I have been a fan of this team since it's existence. No matter how much they are losing or how much I'm pissed off at the team, I have never referred to them as Tragic or Orlando Tragic. Very disappointing to see other Magic fans use that word or refer to them with that word. What's next, fans showing up to Amway wearing brown paper bags over their heads ala Cleveland Browns fans?

:nonono: :banghead:

Good for you. You've also been cheering the team to lose a lot lately, so get off your high horse bro. I've watched every single game all five years of this crappy rebuild... I've earned the right to joke about them being tragic without having other fans question me for it. The whole organization is disaster right now. If you can't laugh about it at this point then you're only going to drive yourself mad.

I'm not on a high horse. Nice try though. Yes I want a top 3/5 pick in a stacked draft. Still doesn't give me reason to crap on the team like that. Get off your high horse.

Its a sad situation when any fanbase mocks it's team. I love the orlando magic. I will never stop defending them and I will never stop cheering them. God I wish we all felt like that. Does it not disgust anybody else that the magics road record is good enough to fight with the top 8 teams in the east and that our home record only beats Brooklyn, la, Phoenix , and Sacramento.

Team pride folks remember it. The only thing that annoys me is when i read a headline thinking it concerns me and its about magic johnson.
