Well it might make a difference in how quickly he is adapting relative to other freshmen. Shabazz dominated his classes for years too due to being a year older and was rated very highly on the draft boards for awhile.

completely different type of player. I understand the age argument when we're discussing a player relying on being physically dominant over his peers as was the case with Bazz. Once he no longer had that advantage he was brought back down to earth. We're not having the same conversation with Josh. He's not a player relying solely on his physical gifts to be effective on the court. His game is well-rounded with the main weakness being his jumper. He didn't put his head down and muscle his way to the cup and he'll be coming in with one of the higher IQs in the class near the top. I don't think his age makes a difference due to those things.

I feel like it's a little different with these gifted defenders like JJ though. Someone already mentioned Jimmy Butler getting a zillion minutes as a rookie because his defense was so valuable to the team. If JJ is that level of defender then it will be tough for the coaching staff to keep him out of the starting lineup for long, especially considering the defensive weaknesses and inexperience in the rest of the lineup and the fact that TJ profiles so well as a sixth man scorer.

The last few days I have been watching tapes of Fultz (great), Dennis Smith Jr. (I don't like him) and Josh Jackson.

Defensively he goes for the steal at every moment, he loses position a lot of times. Not impress with his IQ on defense and his passing and vision is overrated IMO. He gets assists because the system, they play a lot of high post/low post between their frontcourt players.

He is a good prospect, but I just don't see that huge upside. I need to study him better, but at the moment I don't think he is a Top 3 pick.

how much Josh have you actually watched? BTW this isn't a question to be combative just asking because I've been watching the kid for a few years now so when I see these questions arise about his game I'd like to know how familiar a person really is with the prospect's game.

I have not seen too much, that is why I said that I have to study him better. I will watch him more in the next few weeks and I will change my opinion if needed after watching more tape.

Josh has been number one since his jr year in high school for me lol. He's done nothing to lose the spot IMO. I just think Lonzo is an ideal fit for your team with the talent you already have in place.

There was a great article by someone back on Grantland that went into why some prospects are older. Can't seem to find it now, but it has to do with parents holding their kids back at ~12 if they're getting into competitive sports but maybe not getting enough attention. Hold them back a year so they're playing against younger kids and dominating, get a better reputation, then after a few years take them back up to their normal grade level so they can get into the NBA sooner. Shabazz is a good case for what can go wrong here though, since he wasn't brought back up to his normal grade and ended up being the #1 prospect in his class or something, when in reality it had more to do with him playing against kids a year younger.

So they must have done the same with Josh, and never moved him back, unless he just had to repeat a grade or something.

Great poll question, I think it depends on whether you see this draft as very good or generational.

If you see it as generational I think you have to pick the 20-30 point scorer that you think Tatum, Smith, Fox can become similar to the 2003 class.

If it's seen as more traditional then getting a role player who can be a 3rd option All-Star like Ball is a good result.

These types of articles get on my nerves.
This doesn't fix anything. Players will choose the sexiest place they can go. Teams like the Bucks and Wolves will suffer (amongst others).
Teams like the Lakers, could ALWAYS get the best players by simply managing the cap.

I picked Tatum. I wouldn't be upset with Ball, but I feel like Tatum could be great as well. A good fit with us.
