Cuban said he would have tanked if this draft had a stacked top 5 like 2003 (LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Anthony).
Bosh and Wade weren't considered big prizes that year. James, darko, melo. I dont remember much hype around bosh or wade before the draft.
Wade had opened a lot of eyes with his tournament play but I don't remember whether he climbed near the top of the draft boards though? Still, I'm quite sure that the scouts were enamored of him even if the internet experts somewhat ignored him. Bosh was always fairly well regarded as I recall. But I'd certainly agree that neither was getting quite the buzz that James and Carmelo were getting.
I guess I'm looking at this draft much the same as Cuban is. I thought it was one for the ages but as the season wore on, each star gained a little tarnish. I still think this is an incredibly deep draft with good talent in the top 10, I'm just less confident that any of the predicted superstars will ever reach that level. Part of why I've been pushing for Markkanen has to do with the lack of undisputed greatness at the top. He isn't flashy enough for a top 3 pick but I think he's the safest player in the top 10. I'd probably put Jackson ahead of him in that regard, just based on performance, but I worry about the other issues with him.
