Cubs interested in Greinke

Post#1 » by treyZz » Thu Jul 19, 2007 6:22 am

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/195953.html

The Yankees, along with the Braves, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Cubs, have expressed interest in Kansas City right-hander Zack Greinke, a pitcher who could also serve as a starter if they were to need one in a pinch.

The Royals are dismissing, for now, a Chicago radio report alleging strong interest by the Cubs in reliever Zack Greinke. The Royals are willing to trade Greinke, but the price would be high.

I would love Greinke. Even if we had to pay a high price.

Greinke is a sick sick sick sick sick talent. I'm a huge fan.

I would pay a high price for him.

Hopefully Jim & his 3 chins can get this deal done!

Wow Greinke huh? I love him.

He has some great stuff. Really good zip on his fastball and a crazy slow curve ball. With mid-low 90s stuff and a super slow curve with so-so break but he delievers it with the same arm speed and angle as his fastball.

We'd have to give up a heap of ish, like treyZz said, to get him. It would probably take a couple good pitching prospects.

After all that hes only in his young 20s and he already has some years under his belt.

Please don't look at his stats, they suck. KC sucks, plus hes in the AL so his era is for sure inflated. A move to the NL would deff help.

Me likes.

He struggled big time as a starter.. if the cubs are looking to add him in the starting role stay away because he has anxiety problems when he doesn't pitch on a daily basis.. anywho.... he's been really effective in the bullpen and KC love him because of that. we need to give up big time for him.

I'd rather go after someone who's more consistent. Year, Grienke has a lot of upside, but he's a fairly big risk for what we'd have to give up. I'd rather someone who I know is going to really help us this year. If Hendry wants another reliever, I'd prefer Linebrink, Gagne or Dotel.

Whoa, I may be clairvoyent. A few minutes after I posted that, the wiretap reponds.

"The Cubs, Dodgers and Brewers have expressed interest in Octavio Dotel."

FWIW, Grienke's mother was one of my teachers in high school here in Orlando. The kid has some good stuff...but family and personal problems have really taken a toll on him...and I personally don't think he'd work out well in Wrigley.

This is extremely useful info. If the kid can't use baseball to escape family and personal problems how is he going to respond to the Wrigley crowd and expectation.

Then again he came into the league at 19 and is only 23(?) now.
