Should VanGundy the GM fire VanGundy the coach?

Post#1 » by Strawder » Wed Mar 29, 2017 6:20 pm

It appears to me that the coach has lost the team. If Stan weren't the GM, I think almost any coach in his situation would be on the hot seat, given the Pistons' regression this year. Stan has spoken favorably regarding Patrick Ewing in reference to the Georgetown job. If he didn't get that job, why not consider him for coach of the Pistons? He has been an associate head coach in the NBA and maybe, just maybe, he'd be able to teach and motivate Drummond to reach his potential. As a player, Ewing was a warrior who brought it every game. Who knows how good of a coach he'd be, but he definitely has credibility and maybe he could install a different mindset into these players. Personally, I'm kind of sick of listening to Van Gundy and I can only wonder what it's like for the players who have to listen to him every day.

No, I think it's time for GM VanGundy to bring in some basketball players that actually know how to SHOOT a basketball.
The 3-point shooting on this team is PATHETIC.

SVG the GM should get one more offseason to right his wrongs, but I believe SVG the coach shouldn't be allowed to coach another game past this season. He's got zero in-game composure. Horrible leadership for a young team.

Players have given up on him in my opinion. But that's because they are young and not professional. SVG takes this seriously but our young team excluding a couple don't seem to care as much and think he's to strict.

I'm personally more done with Dre and RJ than I am with SVG.

It is true SVG may get grating to listen to, but honestly, I'm still more or less content with him running the show. He deserves to play out the rest of his contract.

I am FAR more dissatisfied with the effort of the players than I am with the performance of the coach.

It's not the coach. They're a bunch of little kids on the court, there's no leader. What'll happen is the most childish players (Dre and RJ) will have to go and Dre isn't getting traded at 23 lol Jackson should be as good as gone after this season. Then KCP will get paid and that's another year of experience moving forward. Try again.

You guys are just bored because the season is over. Trust me do yourself a favor and stop paying attention to the Pistons until October. I've been following this team even during the Jerebko era. Don't torment yourselves and root for another team or sport in the meantime. Season's over since losing to Brooklyn.

I'm in Van Gundy's corner. Kick out anyone that doesn't bring the necessary effort every night.

5 wins out of 5th in the conference...the difference between "**** Everyone" & "OMG bro we're pretty good!"

This is why Detroit can't tank - y'all get a sniff and then BOOM instant contenders...and when we're not it's rip it all apart!

Where's my mate blkbrd? Why not us? Cause you don't go from the outhouse to the penthouse in a single step

It's been mentioned, but SVG the GM thought too highly of SVG the coach, when he opted to not bring in any veteran leadership and roll with an entire roster of young players. Stan thought he would be the leader of the team, and in reality the players need a peer that sets the tone. When Reggie, Mook and Dre are left to lead the team, it's no wonder there are so many issues. So bottom line for me is they're both to blame. Stan has failed as a GM to accumulate the right talent. He did a great job acquiring quality players, but didn't give SVG the coach a winning combination. But SVG the coach thought too highly of himself and his ability to motivate and lead a group of up and coming players.

Short answer: Yes.

His offensive sets are straight from 2008, I mean that in the worst way. His ability to maintain positive relationships with his players looks absolutely terrible.

You can talk about Reggie and Andre's attitudes this season (which are awful), but SVG spends an ungodly amount of time around these guys. He knew who they were when he gave them huge contracts and assigned them as the cornerstone players of his team. That was a huge mistake on him. You can chalk some of that as learning on the job as team president, sure.

But, he's failed as a coach. I 100% believe that a better coach would have gotten this team into the playoffs- beyond scrapping for the 8th seed.

Still on the same drumbeat here -- has Dre improved under SVG?

As much as I might not want to say it, I think they need to come back with a healthy RJ, I think many times a team can go either way, overreaction can sometimes lead to poor transactions. I think a healthy Reggie Jackson would have made a big difference, last year the Pistons were one of the better starting units, this year they were not, although their bench improved. We will see, I just hope they don't panic and start over. On a second topic, SJ single handedly lost that game against Miami I think, does he just have a poor BBIQ, I've almost given up on him at this point.
