What happened to the big 6'10" 265lbs brutes who ruled the paint ?? Most of the C's are in the 230-240lb range while the PF's are around 225lb. Now I get it with all the underclassmen coming out early, but do these guys ever get in the weight room ??
Games changed. A 265 lb player better be an elite post scorer and defender or he'll get eaten alive by these teams that wanna space you out. Tall kids know there's a better chance of sticking around in the league if you can shoot and defend stretch 4s than if you're built like Tractor Traylor and have a sweet drop step.
While I will agree the way the game is played today has changed, the game itself hasn't. Jokic is a prome example of how different teams can play the way they want, how their players can dictate the game. How many teams have a point-center ?? DEN makes it work even though most teams want the ultra-athletic C, that doesn't really describe Jokic. While the matchups don't favor the Joker on the defensive end, he puts in effort to and offsets any deficiencies with smart play at the other end. Same could be said for a 265lb PF, but I;d rather have him taking shots from 5-8ft than a 225lb guy taking 20ft jumpers, better percentages IMO.
I certainly wouldn't mind going after a guy like Derrick Favors this off-season, for the right price of course,
Also concede that most draft guys are coming our at age 19-20, need to get them in the weight room right away as most need to gain weight and muscle to play against NBA bigs
