Sigh, my buddy is doing his bday party this day. Were going Axe throwing at 5pm EST/EDT & then out for wings downtown
around 8pmish EST/EDT. Ugh. That reminds me I gotta call the place were going to & hope/pray they are showing this...
Otherwise I gotta avoid forums/sports sites/facebook & watch it on Sunday.
EDIT: Crabby Joes in London, Ontario Canada do not subscribe to UFC PPV's anymore. Darn/dang...

Top two fights are really good, not much else here that I care about. Interested in the Brooks fight but I'd guess he's tailor made to beat Oliveira.

This is not a good card even if it stays whole. Also, the UFC never seems to learn sometimes. This is a one fight card, and the main event has Daniel "I pull out of every single fight" Cormier in it. If DC (or Rumble) ends up pulling out of this fight, they are going to probably have to cancel this event. Why would you risk that given previous issues with stuff like this? The UFC has to get away from making cards where one fight being called off will crumble the whole thing, and they certainly need to be smart enough not to have people like DC, Cain, or Aldo in that single fight.

Re: UFC 210: DC vs Rumble 2 Saturday April 8th PPV....
^^ The weird part about the above is that they will randomly make some cards ridiculously stacked. Its like, why not spread the wealth a little? Look at 211. Why is it so crazy good while this card sucks?
Think about this stupid little example that they used last week on an mmapodcast I heard. They originally slated Maia/Masvidal as main event for a fightnight card in Nashville. They since pulled it from there and put it on the already ridiculously stacked 211 main card. Nobody extra is buying that event because Maia/Masvidal was added to it. That said, Maia/Masvidal could very well draw more eyes on a fightnight that Swanson/Lobov.
Yea, Artem f*cking 13-12 Lobov is a ufc headliner these days. How ridiculous. UFC needs to find a balance, they can have good balanced cards monthly without it always being feast or famine.

TL;DR I really don't think WME know what they are doing at all.

I think some of it is timing, but some of it is Sean Shelby's matchmaking IMO. I'm starting to see trends in the UFC that bothered me in the WEC when Shelby was booking that org. The matchmaking is already suffering. Lobov vs. Cub and Yair vs. Edgar? Horrible matchmaking. Yair is getting thrown in a wrestling match he isn't ready for and Cub is being wasted here. Cub needs to be fighting Yair (or Korean Zombie for that matter), Lobov needs to be fighting some middle of the road slugger, and Edgar needs to be fighting an established elite fighter and not a young lion.
We are also seeing worse and worst fight placement on cards. Something that was a staple in the WEC for a long time. Calvillo vs. Gonzalez in the middle of the main card and Usman vs. Strickland on the undercard? WTF is that?
This card is a mess, and I think it's the Shelby factor.

Lobov should be fighting in another organization that I've never heard of.
I'm actually surprised to hear you dislike Yair/Edgar since I recall arguing with you a few years ago because you were advocating Holloway/Edgar and I was saying that Holloway wasn't ready for that yet. Pretty similar situation now with Yair/Edgar.

I don't recall the specific argument, but man Edgar is a giant leap up in competition and a terrible style fight for Yair. I feel like he's still a fight away from Edgar. Cub now, Edgar is he wins that one.
Agreed on Lobov, he's in the UFC for one reason, and it isn't his skill.

Re: UFC 210: DC vs Rumble 2 Saturday April 8th PPV....
I genuinely dislike Rumble. I don't know why he gets a pass on his domestic abuse issues. Tough call on this fight though,
I'm a fan of any fight/event involving the GOAT Mousasi though, so I am definitely excited for this solely based on that. The rest of the card is really lacking for a PPV.
Rib injuries can be brutal, but it's good to see Ill Will is good to go. I guess he'll have to settle for the other Oliveria, but I really hope he makes the jump to 170 one day just to get a rematch with Cowboy.

I don't know what else there is to make of it though. Do you continually remind people he's had DV issues in his past? What do you do?
It is what it is, it's in the past, you hope the guy has learned from his mistakes and move on. If it's a personal hate for the guy and it's what you use to root against him then that's your prerogative but I don't think anyone is saying his past DV issues are OK, only that it's in the past and you hope it was a learning experience for him.

Well for one, people have to stop with this narrative that Rumble is a nice guy. I also would like to understand why someone would support a guy like Rumble anyways.
Rumble sucks. It's amazing how DC will still manage to get booed in favour of another fighter who isn't nearly as likeable (the same case when he fights Bones) .

I'm kind of surprised people are thinking this is so close. I think Rumble has to land a knockout shot early, or DC dominates him again. DC is going to be hard to knockout, he's got that little squatty body, fat head, and no neck. He's going to be hard to tag on the chin, and he's going to get his hands on RUmble and turn it into a wrestling match, probably pretty early again.
Also, Weidman has to have more pullouts than DC, right? This card is hanging in the balance.... lol

I'm picking Rumble. All signs suggest he has been the one improving daily in the gym. He's also the one who seemed overwhelmed by the moment in the first one and the one who mentally broke. I figure that shame is working through him.
LOL, I heard someone insist just today that, "well, DC has taken Rumble's best punch." Uh huh. I don't care how thick your neck is. Butterbean is getting his chin turned like his neck is made of rope if Rumble hits him.
DC is obviously a super great dude / competitor and I will be pulling for him. But Rumble's got a chance.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I'll agree with ACM. There is this weird narrative, both on forums and mma media, that Rumble is some great guy, a nice guy, etc. I scratch my head everytime I hear that, which is often. I mean you're right in the sense that what's done is done and everyone deserves a second chance, but the dude has more domestic violence allegations than most people have speeding tickets.

DC was about two seconds away from getting stopped by Gus. Rumble can beat him for sure. I picked DC confidently in the first fight, but that was multiple injuries/knockdowns ago.

So we are all still pretending this fight is actually going to happen? I can feel DC's knees shattering as I type this.

I don't feel like I've seen enough to gauge whether or not Rumble has improved his grappling and cardio enough to withstand what's going to come if he doesn't finish it very early. I think Cormier is still going to have a huge wrestling and cardio advantage, and even with great cardio, Cormier's style will sap the hell out of you if you can't keep the fight standing.

Like I said, Gus was able to keep himself from being grapple ****, and landed a big knee late in the fight. If Rumble can keep DC off of him, he should be the favorite, I just don't think his wrestling has gone up that much since last time to think he can keep Cormier off of him, so he'll have to finish him quick, IMO. Very possible, I'd still be comfortable going with DC though.
