Re: Luka Doncic
Placed some $ on Fene win today. Not expecting much, but with 3.4 odds I think its worth the risk. Will be interesting to see Doncic on Bogdanovic, at least I assume Fene will put Bogdan on him, since I can't imagine Dixon guarding him. Anyway, will be interesting to see how Doncic looks against these guys defensively.

Re: Luka Doncic
I've seen 10 highlight games from him and other than great passing, I don't understand what people see in him.
He's mediocre athletically, not the best shooter, not the best defender, not a great rebounder, too weak physically, can't finish in traffic...what am I supposed to like about him? His leadership, court awareness and passing?
That's fine, but how is he projected to be top 3 in the draft if he plays like Jose Calderon or a taller Kendall Marshall?

You are wrong on most things you "noticed". Maybe you should watch the actual games, not just the highlights. He is v very good shooter, one of the best rebounders in Euroleague for his position (top 3), above average defensively, he is tough, not afraid to take over in clutch and he delivers as well. He is not an elite athlete but is above average and of course physically he is not strong enough which is understandable as he just turned 18.
Basically you are wrong on 9 out of 10. Watch the game today against Fener and see what happens)))

Put Kendall Marshall on Real Madrid, he would be third stringer. Luka Doncic already showing leadership on that team at age 18.
I don't know what do you want from him more as a shooter. Looks like can develop into elite shooter, 41% from 3 in the Euroleague so far, a lot of his shots being off the dribble step backs. 46% from the field and 85 % from the FT line.
He is also the best rebounding guard in the Euroleague.
The guy is 18, just scratching the surface of his true potential, but a lot of people already think he is one the best players in Europe. I get not being that high on him, but its pretty obvious why he is rated so high in most mocks.

Re: Luka Doncic
How can you watch the video above that Gregsa just posted (of succesful highlights and 'amazing' plays) and say he's above average athletically? Are you his agent?
The highlights show his qualities, his baskets, his best passes and none of his mistakes. Those are the evidences I'm using to say he's definetely mediocre athletically, for example.
It's not like I'm overrating him saying he's perfect and you might say "watch the full game". Select any highlight video of his most athletic moves, and I bet (if I'm wrong, I'll admit it) that he'll look extremely meh athletically.
His vision is elite, his skill level is definetely top 3, his passing accuracy and technique (spins, speed) are elite..I just don't see the rest (other than shooting. He's definetely capable of being a respectable shooter. Don't like his form, though, nor think he'll be anything more than acceptable with it)

He is definitely not a great athlete. He can leap a bit, but what worries me a bit is his lack of quick first step. I Don't know how hes gonna beat his man on perimeter. He is still a very interesting case, because he plays PG at a very high level, yet he is around 6'9 and might still be growing.
I would say he is one of those players who just looks better when you watch actual game. His highlights actually bore me at times, but when you watch full game, you see how well he controls the game. That is evident in his +/-. Team can live and die by Llull, very sporadic leader, but with Doncic, team always look like they are doing something good.

He is above average for his age group. He will keep improving on all the things you think are his minuses in the next 4-5 years. He might still even be growing, he grew about 3 cm over the summer. I am not saying that he is perfect, he has things he needs to work hard on but your assessment is off. If he is so average, why is his +/- one of the best in all competitions? Average player wouldnt be making his teammates so much better and when he is on the court, Real usually plays better on both sides.
Like I said, watch the full games and then we can have a debate. I bet if you would watch a u18 game where he was playing, you would not be saying this crap. If you criticize him, then at least do it properly not use arguments like his shooting and rebounding is bad. It makes you look foolish and evidently you dont know what you are talking about.

The thing is, this opinion (that even most of us Doncic-homers hold) could be unfair to Doncic because it's like we're faulting him for already being so strong at his age.
What if he's only developed compared to his peers and not based on his actual genetic potential? What if his body keeps progressing and he becomes almost a LeBron-like tank in a couple of years?
Yeah, it's possible that his body is already close to his peak, if that's the case (and I also believe it is, sadly), he's obviously still going to improve in the next 5 years or so, but not by a lot ... But what if his body isn't close to peak? It's really too early to tell and it's unfair to hold his current advanced body against him.

Re: Luka Doncic
The thing with strength is that even though he is ahead of his peers. He still will continue to get stronger as will his peers. I think his strength is fine but he needs to learn how to use his strength to finish and improve his footwork this is imperative. Even when he has prime inside position on drives or postups he passes out most of the time. Guys like Dragic and Parker are pros at using their footwork inside. Hopefully Dragic can give him pointers on this.

Well, my bet went south, Fene only socred 56 points in the game. Doncic had few good defensive possessions, but overall, another pretty bad game for him. He looked very average in the last few weeks.

He plays point guard, but has a body of a solid forward, thats all I was trying to say. He is tall, I dont know whats your problem.

So...what was I supposed to watch from him last night?
I saw the above average athleticism...couldn't blow by traffic cones.

Hes been very underwhelming in the last couple of games. Hit a deep off the dribble 3, he is one of the better long range shooters in that area.

2nd behind Fultz, I'm not sold on Ball or Jackson.
