Re: TMac voted into the HOF....
I loved TMac when he was here. I just can't forget that he turned his back on us. After all the time that's passed I can't say that I blame him though. We gave him nothing to work with.
The talk of if he stayed and played with dwight and Jameer is going to make me go insane. That's completely impossible. He left we got really bad and ended up with the #1 pick. TMac leaving is the reason we got dwight.
As for retiring his number as a magic player. I donthen know. Thing is penny and TMac both wore #1. Should they both get retired? Should the magic decide on only one to retire? They were both great. So wasn't shaq and dwight. I guess the real question is whether or not any of them deserve to be retired by the magic. They are the obvious 4 in my opinion however none has brought us a title. TMac never even won a playoff series for orlando. For me it's a no. We haven't had a special type of talent with the commitment to orlando to deserve their jersey hanging in the rafters.

That is incorrect. The Dwight draft and Tmac trade happened the same summer. Tmac was here in the 21 win season that we got the #1 pick. He could have stayed and played with Dwight but he refused to that summer. I remember the media asking him who the Magic should pick and he saying something like "I don't know Dwight Howard, i don't know Emeka Okafor, I don't know any of these guys". He wanted to play with an established star, not wait around for draft picks, and he hated Weisbrod. His mind was made up he wanted to leave but he definetly could have played with Dwight and Jameer.

Penny wore number 1 as well though. I know Tmac didn't have much to work with but Penny went to the finals. I am biased though as Penny is my favourite player.

Exactly, I remember the reports that TMac wanted us to take Okafor as he was more NBA ready and Dwight would be too much of a project. Really wish he would have stuck it out. So many "what if's" for this team, so close to greatness

Ok. My bad. My memory failed me. Lol. TMac greatness went on to play with Yao who was pretty dominant when he was healthy and they never put it together for a title. TMac would have wasted more of his prime years waiting for dwight and Jameer to develop. Who knows how it would've worked out but we definitely wouldn't have had the money to spend on Rashard or hedo or vince, not that they would've been needed with TMac there.
Bottom line is he wanted out. The same way dwight and shaq wanted out. Congrats on nba hof.

There is no NBA Hall of Fame and individuals do not go in to the Hall on a team.

BTW: this is Orlando's fifth Hall of Famer. Name the other 4.

Re: TMac voted into the HOF....
As others have already stated in this thread, I too have always wondered what would have happened had the Magic not traded McGrady. Part of me always wonders if the Magic had played hardball with McGrady and they started winning again would have lead to T-Mac changing his mind.
No one expected to Dwight to play as well as he did and add to the fact that Grant Hill finally got healthy enough to play. I am confident the following lineup could've made some serious noise in the East that season:
PG - Nelson
SG - McGrady/Stevenson
SF - Hill/Hedo
PF - Gooden/Juwan
C - Dwight
We also had Varejao who we then traded for Tony Battie lol.

I think Gooden would have been gone that year regardless. He was just a goofball and with Dwight coming in (remember the infected hair follicles and the headband incident). Still think we could have signed Hedo, he was signed with the MLE I think. The one guy as mentioned before would have been no Lewis. Nelson would have been awesome with Tmac being a good spot up shooter, tons of open space for him.

This is revisionist history. TMac was a baby while he was here and ultimately quit on this franchise after winning exactly nothing while he was here. The Magic owe him nothing. At least Shaq and Howard accomplished something before becoming divas.

He played 4 years here, and never tasted any playoff success (we even got bounced up 3-1). There was a T-Mac appreciation day, and he was inducted into the Magic HOF. That's enough, IMO. He bailed right in the midst of his prime, and that's on him. The Magic owe him nothing more.
I'm not even fully convinced he belongs in the NBA HOF, but that's a different story.

Re: TMac voted into the HOF....
While we are talking about what if scenarios, imagine if the Magic did sign Tim Duncan (were so close to signing him), what if Grant Hill stayed healthy.
The other what if, what if T-Mac and Shaq played together on the Magic.
Man, so many opportunities for Orlando. Oh well, congrats to Tracy for making the HOF.

After he famously proclaimed how good it felt to finally make it to the second round. That was rather embarrassing.

This, I know he left several years earlier, but imagine if he was on the team that played the Lakers in the Finals. TMac might have a championship.
Jameer
TMac
Hedo
Rashard
Dwight
Impossible since we had to trade Steve Francis for Hardaway's expiring to get Lewis.
