2017 Prospect/Minor League/Draft Thread.

Post#1 » by wichmae » Sat Apr 1, 2017 1:22 am

Alex Faedo completely crushing my hopes and dreams of him being on the board still when we pick in June. Guy to watch if anyone is interested is Mark Vientos who is shooting up draft boards. Heliot Ramos as well but I dont see us taking another OF. IM hoping like hell one of the college starters fall to us. Bukauskas and Mckay surely will be gone. Kyle Wright, Seth Romero, or Alex Faedo need to be in our system.

ETA: Not sure I agree with PG but they say these are the top five as of today in NCAA
JB Bukauskas
Brian Miller

Other areas to watch is our AAA OF is basically the OF of the future of this team. Cordell, Brinson, and Phillips. All should rake in CS. The AA team will highlight Dubon mostly. High A will have quite a bit of offensive guys in Erceg, Ray, Nottingham, Isan and possibly Gatewood. T-Rats should also be stacked. Most the pitchers are honestly pretty easy to place.

Is this a different Williams than the guy who is just coming back from TJ? I can't keep them straight.

Nathan Kirby and Taylor Williams had TJ and are coming back. Devin Williams was in A ball last year and did ok. He's our #27 on pipeline.

Definitely am looking forward to following the young guys in the minors this year. Interested to see how the move to the Carolina League, from the hitters hell of the Florida State League, will effect our hitters in High A.

I am guessing by mid June the minors league teams will have more of my attention than the big boys.

18y/o Mario Feliciano made the single A team and will be starting catcher. Massive prospect to watch. Very highly placed.

Minor League Rosters trickling out…
Over the course of the day some of the Brewers’ MiLB affiliates have been or will be announcing their 2017 Opening Day rosters. Here’s what we’ve seen released so far:

Class A Wisconsin: The TimberRattlers will feature a number of very young players that will be looking for breakthrough seasons or looking to follow up on strong 2016 seasons playing at the Rookie level.
Among the names to pay close attention to, Gilbert Lara may be one of the most intriguing ones. The 19 year old hit .250 last year in Helena (a 45 point improvement from 2015). He’s a big, rangy short stop that still has a lot of development left in him.
Other names are 1B Ronnie Gideon, Catcher Mario Feliciano and OFs Monte Harrison & Demi Orimoloye. Gideon had a big year last year in Helena while Feliciano is one of the top young catchers in the organization. Harrison will be repeating in Appleton once again as he tries to stay healthy. Orimoloye is another high-ceiling prospect that the Brewers believe can be a power bat in a corner outfield spot.
Some of the names to watch on the mound will be Braden Webb (2016 draft pick), Jordan Desquin and Trey Supak.

A Advanced Carolina: This will be a squad to watch in 2017. The Mudcats will be loaded up with 8 top 30 Brewers prospects like Trent Clark, Isan Diaz, Lucas Erceg and Marcos Diplan.

AA Biloxi: The Shuckers will feature a handful of members of the Brewers 40-man roster in OF Michael Reed and RHPs Jorge Lopez & Taylor Williams.
Also donning the Shuckers uniform this season will be SS Mauricio Dubon, RHP Bubba Derby, RHP Jon Perrin and repeating AA this year will be C Jacob Nottingham.
This should be a roster that will see a lot of movement on both ends, guys promoted from Carolina and a handful of guys earning promotions to Colorado Springs.

AAA Colorado Springs: The Sky Sox have released a preliminary roster and this pitching staff should be an interesting one to watch. LHP Josh Hader and RHP Brandon Woodruff will look to build on big 2016s and both could be knocking on the big league door soon. OFs Lewis Brinson, Ryan Cordell, Brett Phillips and Kyle Wren have all garnered plenty of attention this spring. Will Phillips bounce back from his 2016 in AA and keep pace with Brinson as one of the top OF prospects in the organization? He looked ready to do just that this spring with strong defense and a better approach at the plate. How will Cordell look, not just in the outfield, but also when he gets opportunities at the corner infield spots.

Lewis Brinson could have a short stay in Colorado Springs if he picks up where he left off in 2016
This Sky Sox team, as really all the Brewers’ MiLB affiliates, will be fascinating to watch. If Hader and Woodruff can perform at the top of that rotation, watch out.

Where do you think Ray will end up? Carolina? Or do you think they'll go ultra-aggressive and see how he manages in Biloxi?

I think Carolina. They have Belonis, Trent Clark, Troy Stokes and Brandon Diaz. I just dont think theyll bite into PT in Biloxi's Coulter, Rouche, and Reed OF to try and get Ray going. Carolina is the must see team in the system. Theyre stacked. Theres even some thought Kirby goes there too when he's done rehabbing.

Kirby feels like a nice lottery ticket at this point. No expectations. But TJ surgery isn't a death sentence anymore.

Hopefully Phillips can get back on track this year. I feel like his stock really fell from a year ago.

Whatever happened to that Tyronne Taylor? Felt like he was top 10 a few years back and now not even top 25. I know our system is alot better, but still seems like a drastic fall. I'm guessing he stalled at AA? I assume the same with Victor Roache.

Taylor, Coulter, and Roache have all basically done nothing last couple seasons in terms of improvement, and we just have better prospects in the system. I'd be surprised if any of those three get an AB at the MLB level.

Minor league games start tonight, right?

Yup.

I'm not ready to write off Coulter. He's got a big arm and good bat speed. Had a nice run in AA last season. I think the Brewers look to move him up whenever they get the chance to this season.

Yeah Coulter had a really nice 2nd half last year. Taylor doesnt make enough contact and Roache still cant hit any breaking pitches. Taylor and Roache probably wont be MLB players on their current trajectory but Coulter does have a chance. He probably wont end up being a regular but his cannon arm and bat to ball skills play. Weve been very unlucky with being in BC killing offensive players and CS killing pitchers. Carolina should help for the high A guys who struggled like COulter did in 1st half. MiLB does start tonight.
