His mistake was trying to bring Reggie back too quickly, and I think he has said as much.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

He brought Reggie back after Ish finally pieced it all together, winning 3 straight on the road and 6 of 7 overall.
KCP and Tobias were playing like all-stars during that stretch.
ANY coach would of continued riding the hot hand.
This showed nothing but incompetence and stubbornness.

You'd think. But we're talking about a guy who, in 2009, refused even to ride the hot hand from the entire eastern conference playoffs into the Finals!, opting instead to disregard the chemistry and rhythm that propelled the team into the Finals by sitting Rafer Alston and re-inserting Jameer Nelson, who hadn't played at all since tearing his labrum on February 2nd, into the starting lineup for game 1 of The Finals. And, compounding it, he continued to start Nelson through the entire series eventhough he clearly didn't have it. It was an all-time awful coaching decision. So, I'm guessing hot hands in early December don't phase him much.

These SVG apologists are amazing.

Yeah hes a good GM and a great teacher/system coach.
But as far as elite decision making, and feel for the team, hes horrible.
He literally just wasted a whole season. Fifty games to an injured pg because he fell in love with him at training camp. And theres no guarantee he wont do it again, because hes done it before.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Pat Riley would have came and taken him out of his misery and took the Pistons to the 5th seed

I agree with the posters who say he brought reggie back too soon. He not only brought him back too soon but he immediately inserted him in the starting lineup and destroyed any momentum that was building. Svg was more responsible for the team NOT making the playoffs than anyone else.
