1 loss away.

Or if 2/3 of Bulls, Pacers, Heat win 1 more game.

We have to win out, and have 2 out of those 3 teams lose out

****, that still probably means crazy svg thinks we have a shot. Should've been playing the young guys like 2-3 weeks ago.

He's bad at basketball bro. Picked ahead of Turner and Booker. If he still looks this way next year, he's a bust.

Who gives a crap about the playoffs? Is there something gratifying about squeaking in, getting crushed in the first round, and getting a low draft pick?

Yeah man.. idk how the fan mentality from college fans (or non-sports fans even) to pro fans is so different. I always want the Pistons in the bracket. Period. I understand the incentive of high lotto chances/picks by losing in the pros but... as a fan I just want to win and cheer as much as possible. I want to lose, wait and be strategic/patient... never.

EDIT: We lost to the champs last year in a pretty competitive series. That's a moral victory as a fan that I can hold on to... losing to the best and playing well when nobody expected us to.

Glad the tankers are guaranteeing a successful low lotto pick. Call me crazy but I still root for them to win.

Glad we lost, looking at the minutes distribution I honestly think Stan the GM is not trying to win these games. I think SVG is in full evaluation mode now. Would KCP have played more than 17 min if we were 8th? Absolutely. I think SJ is being evaluated heavy

He isn't that good at Offense, really just shooting, turnovers some games. I think that is one of the things that are easy to improve tho. He brings it on D usually. I for sure don't think he will be a bust, this year was a pretty huge disappointment for me, but not giving up the kid. I wish he could get free reign like Booker. I think he would develop into a hell of a player if he could bring the ball up and initiate the Offense most of the time he is on the floor, but with our team he can't, he probably wouldn't to efficient either, but he would making nice plays probably putting up like 15 ppg, 4 boards, and 5 assist, with 2-3 Turnovers or so, on bad efficiency, people might be happy with that. I'm not worried about him, i'm worried about how SVG is going to use him. He was a plus 6 tonight, Stanley doesn't have a score to make a mark on the game, would I like him to, hell yes, do I hope he does get his Shooting together, hell yes, do I think he will, not sure now think SVG has messed him up a little this year especially, but he's still way young.

You read anyone else's post? Think KCP was explained in the thread. You watch the games? Think he was explained during the game.

Don't like links, he was there for the birth of his child the first half.

And every time he came in the game the Pistons lead increased
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

SJ's perfect role is as the secondary ball handler offensively and the defender at SF.

He needs to improve his shooting more than anything else

Plus 6 for the game - apparently he's a bust lol

SJ has been a bust so far... He came into the season this year with a sense of entitlement thinking he didn't have to work as hard for his playing time and that things would be given to him since he wasn't a rookie anymore. About 5-10% of this season he's looked like he's going to be a solid NBA player and the rest of it he's either been on the bench or played below expectations.

SJ is clearly not a bust. I think people forget that a bust means a player drops out of the league and does nothing. The guy rebuild his jumpshot in the offseason. He has shown an ability to defend at a high level consistently and he has had shown the ability to score and be a playmaker. He has plenty of work to do, but he'll be a key player moving forward.
Saying booker is a better player is useless. More teams than detroit passed on him.

I don't do the treadmill.

The Pistons are not the Red Wings. Detroit is not a draw for free agent stars/superstars and other teams aren't going to trade their stars/siuperstars. 2004 isn't going to happen again. The Pistons need another superstar from the draft (Isiah Thomas) surrounded by good free agent signings/trades and a 2nd round surprise (Tayshaun Prince).

I mean college and NBA are obviously very different. Of course there's no draft in college and you have a high rate of roster changing where you have a player at most 4-5 year, often times less. There's no reason not to want to make the tournament, even if you get bounced in the first round. When the Pistons look like they've given up too it's a lot different getting beat in the first round than when we were a scrappy young team who fought really hard to get that 8 seed.

I get where you're coming from though, even last night when it was close I couldn't help but want our shots to go in and the Raptors to miss... but logically, mathematically, whateva it's better long term to get a better draft pick. No one likes losing. I've made the comparison before that right now my heart wants the Pistons to win, but my brain knows it's better if they lose at this point.

I feel you but with good drafting, signing the right guys, trading the right guys, and using the right lineups we can get to a contending level without tanking for a top 5 pick. You mention a 2nd round surprise like Tayshaun. The NBA is almost like a puzzle now. Giving the correct pieces the correct roles with some specific talents you can compete at a high level without a pure Top 10 player.

Our biggest problem has been loyalty recently. SVG has to experiment with more lineups and be a quicker evaluator of talent with guys like RJ to sell high. When you're not a big FA destination you have to ensure you're getting the absolute most out of the talent you have and be ahead of the curve with talent evaluation. We don't have time or room for error to try to "develop" the wrong talent (Stuckey/Reggie) and fail. The leash has to be shorter for lineups and we have to flip potential for established veteran players more.

Bballnmike wrote:Even last night...

Vs the Raptors Ish wanted that in and out mid range to drop and Toronto hit tough shots that were all contested moderately or stronger. We we're competing. We're not going to make it to the playoffs probably but everyone on the team arguably always competes except for RJ and Dre.

I think we have some solid cards, just have to play the right 5 at a time next year and make a few good moves.

Just for the record Tay was a first rounder, late, but a 1st, Memo was a 2nd tho.

Return to Detroit Pistons
