Re: This offseason
I'm pretty sure we're just gonna overpay George Hill and continue trying to maneuver in the draft to find high risk/high reward players. Hill is the exact type of combo guard they're going to want to pair with Lin and we can outbid his current team, plus he plays D and he's well-known for being a good leader. Lin was the most obvious name approaching FA last year and I think Hill fits for this year.
If they can land Hill at least that would create a legitimate starting 5 and at this point we have more "interesting" bench pieces than we know what to do with. Lin/Hill/LeVert/RHJ/Lopez paired with a deep and athletic bench (Whitehead, Dinwiddie, KJ, Goodwin, Booker) would be fun to watch. Hopefully they'll be able to snag at least 1 more core player in the draft too. I have faith in Marks based on all of his decisions last year (which in hindsight were good, aggressive moves). He's a good evaluator, with a good plan, and a lot more ammunition than he had last year.

we didnt need one we had two stretch 5'sAnd where how does that clear the lane so our guards can continue to attack at the rate they do? We don't have great shooters, thus they drive.
Noel + stretch 4 is the same space as Lopez + RHJ.
Costing ALOT more money.. say $45m combined.
BTW we did try for Marvin Williams and got rebuked, remember?
And moving a C from the middle is much important than the PF.
Agree here...Stretch 5 is probably more devastating for opposition team than a stretch 4 simply because center are slower to close down on other center beyond the arc...A lot of Lopez's 3's are uncontested because other center are uncomfortable coming out this far.
Also, Lopez's 3point prowess allows the Nets to keep shot blockers out of the lane so that guys like LeVert/Lin can drive in easier with no worry of a lurking shot-blocking center because he has to worry about Lopez beyond the arc.
So for me, I'd rather keep Lopez unless Marks can get a top 10 pick..Anything less, hold on unto him and simply try to sign a physical big PF who can rebound and shoot 3's so that we can have 5 guys who can spread the floor...I wouldn't mind Milsap but not on max.

offense is easy enough to find. plenty of shooters where we could find a stretch 4. Defense is a much bigger, tougher issue. and one we will never solve with lopez starting.
It's April and not a single realistic free agent on the market right now is capable of being a 20 point scorer worthy of replacing Lopez. Rudy Gay looked like a good wing fit but that injury he suffered will scare off just about anybody. Same thing with Danilo Gallinari. Entered the season as a possible Lopez replacement offensively but he's averaging 17.9/5/2 on 62.0 TS%. That looks great on paper but he won't nearly have as many looks as he does with Jokic. We might as well just sign someone like him outright and keep Lopez.
We are not desperate to find a major pick with some of the new additions already improving our defense. We need more defensive talent but as of today, I don't see the need to deal Brook and gamble on FA. Not a solid idea by any means and it honestly, took all season to figure out the PF rotation. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to properly fill the C position with someone capable of impacting the game right away.
Lopez isn't untouchable but by all accounts, he deserves to stick around more than recent memory. It would also send a mad message to their improvement towards the end of the year to deal Brook for someone with no offensive talent.
Brook is better served staying here for another year with Lin and co, while mentoring our draft pick. Someone like Harry Giles who is pure athleticism and defensive energy but lacking polish on his skill set could also benefit from a season behind Lopez.

i think its a bad message to keep brook... tells your team you arent serious about defense and value non competitive players
The players we have now love Lopez dude, did you not see them mob him when he hit that game winner the other day? That last point you've made really doesn't vibe with what we're seeing. I don't think retaining lopez remotely sends a bad message. I think you're projecting your own opinion onto the team's feelings which aren't remotely as negative about Lopez as yours.
I agree 100% that we need to shift the C on our roster to a more athletic, defensive oriented position, but if there's no good trade to be made, I'd rather draft a player with high upside to groom for that role and retain Lopez. We really don't lose much by doing so.
I'm not feeling Noel...once we start talking about bringing dudes in here with questionable attitudes and injury issues I start getting D-Will vibes. Not good.
At this point, if I had a gun to my head and was forced to pick between maxing KCP coming off of a DUI and Noel with his baggage...I go with KCP and hope that the kid just made a mistake.

Deandre Kane would be perfect next to Lin in the future. Played for Iowa 6'4 guard from Pittsburgh.

Agreed. you replace the weakest link in foye with Hill who would probably be our best player. We add shooting, a way guy who can switch around. perfect fit for kennys system.
Its going to be an UGLY contract in 3 or 4 years but no one else is taking our money so may as well get another good leader who fits so that we can start winning a few games with this young guys instead of losing 60 every year.
also, hill might help us draw another legit NBA starter. not sure brook does that

Im not going to kill KCP for a DUI but "baggage" is a strong word for Noel.... i admire someone who wants to compete and win when ownership is actively trying to tank and sitting him out so they can lose more games. same crap with okafor. Wanting to play shouldnt be viewed as a bad thing... i mean if they were outright blantantly tanking and noel wasnt earning time and was yapping sure. but i view him calling them out as a major positive.
if you are scared by the injury... well id never blame anyone for that line of thinking. but when i suggest signing players its always under the assumption our staff green lights their injury status.

He is much more then a shot blocker.... great positional dender who can switch 1 through 5. outstanding in the passing line. excellent bbiq especially on offense. can handle the ball for a big. he isnt a great scorer creating his own offense but outside of that he has everything you would want.
i also think he is a high charecter guy. good kid who never gets in trouble. works hard. wants to play and compete. im not gonna fault him for calling out sixers ownership/front office who has made a mockery of the sport

Good dribbling for a big, high Iq, works hard? If that was true Philly wouldn't have traded him. He spoke publicly against the franchise high character? Nah.
There's no point talking about him he doesn't fit the criterion here he works for Dallas they're not letting him go.

Re: This offseason
I mean, let's be honest. Nobody wanted Noel. Philly underpaid to trade him too.
That obviously means something. It may not be his character, could be his knees but either way, I'd give KCP money before I commit to Noel.
I think it just makes more sense to keep Lopez and draft a big man to groom behind him. Unless, we go out and sign or trade for a top notch C. There's really no rush to move on right now. It's very obvious this team is gaining chemistry. This isn't like Toronto where DeRozan/Lowry were behind overshadowed by Gay.
We still need more time to add and develop talent before we move on from him. Like I said before, Lopez controls his own destiny. He could be a Net lifer if he develops on his weaknesses like everyone else and right now, it's hard to sell fans the idea that a guy who went from 3 made three pointers in 8 seasons to 130+ threes in one season isn't capable of improving defensively with more athleticism added to the roster come June/July.
The Nets won't deal him unless it's a move that significantly improves our future. The range of picks we heard were available for Brook isn't worth it and it looks like damn near everybody will declare for the draft. Including some who were expected to stay in college.
We're not gonna land an immediate difference maker unless we are talking a Top 10-12 prospect. Whenever we draft will go through the same growing pains as IW and CLV.
It would be incredibly foolish to deal Brook for a non scoring big with that reality and the reality that Lin is likely due to miss 20 games next season just by his style of play and propensity for injuries. No guarantee we land any FAs including Pope either.

The problem isnt noel.... its philly. It makes no sense to get on a kid for wanting to compete and play hard and have his team try and win games.
its the 76ers being poor charecter, not noel.
Philly didnt have much leverage, he was a pending RFA. they would need to match the max to keep him. they arent doing that with 3 centers on the roster. another sign of how horrible they mismanaged things

Only foolish move is to keep brook and let him walk for nothing or keep him and extend him.
Cap space + first rounder would be a homerun for marks and this franchise. we can actually be a good defensive team replacing lopez with someone who can switch and defend the pick and roll. and adding more first round talent is exactly what we need.

where his value will be at its absolute lowest, being a pending UFA and a 3 month rental.
the draft is the time to move him.
an extension would be a horrific move, and a true sign marks is way out of his league. Luckily that seems really unlikely, as marks was smart to look to deal him already
