OT: Update on Cousins

Post#1 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Thu Apr 6, 2017 5:05 am

Boogie. Not Kirk. We're still talking about both, five years later.

The Pelicans are plus-5.2 since March 1 and plus-12.8 over their past 10 games when Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins play together.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/245523/Pelicans-Optimistic-About-Davis-Cousins-Pairing-After-Late-Season-Surge

“I look at AD and the way he’s played -- he’s played like a top-five player the whole season,” Alvin Gentry said. “And not only that, he’s done it for over 70 games. That’s a real positive in itself, right there.

“And you can see he and DeMarcus are going to be fine together. You put them in a training camp and you’re able to really hone in on what you want to do and how they can play together. They can be very, very effective. I think we have a chance to move forward.”

Why do I post: 1) You guys who said Boogie is a cancer can think this thing through.
2) Those who ONLY CARE ABOUT THE CURRENT WIZARDS can think like I do on this. IF Boogie doesn't play for the Pelicans; he's likely going to find a way to play for the Wizards. Mahinmi or Gortat c ya. And prolly Otto if they don't want to pay him his WORTH.

I'm OUT.

Cousins has never played on a winning team. The Pelicans are 10-11 since they got Cousins. They are 3-1 in games he didn't play in, and 7-10 in games that he did play in. I have never wanted Cousins, and I still don't.

I vote NO for all-star head cases. The Bullets/Wizards have a pretty poor history with them. Unless Cousins matures significantly in the next year or two, I have no interest.

I'd still love Cousins on the Wizards. Our C situation is a big issue going forward. Gortat is slowing down and I don't trust Mahinmi to be able to handle starter's minutes. If we could get Cousins this offseason using Gortat as salary ballast and a 1st round pick, I'd be all for it.

It's the pelicans lol. They're starting Tim Frazier at SG.

Anyways CCJ, while we've had confirmation that Cousins would play here, I just don't see him walking away from New Orleans. He and Davis are beginning to jel, and their cap situation isn't that bad. They're gonna have about 20 mil to spend in the off-season to get another high quality starter. Cousins is a man baby at times, but he's never struck me as being disloyal. The situation in NO can get turned around very quickly.

Those 3 wins without Cousins were against Houston/Denver/Detroit, not exactly patsies.

They're still in the adjustment period. Can't really judge them on what they've done since all star break. They do seem to be getting better

If there's a Cousins to the Wizards move to be made, it would probably be in a sign and trade in the summer of 2018 with Porter potentially going out (ie. Cousins is the sign and trade guy after the first year of Porter's new contract). Right now New Orleans has no reason to trade him.

Even if we didn't trade Porter for Cousins, getting Cousins would almost surely mean that Porter wouldn't be here long term just because the tax payments get so ferocious after a while under the current CBA:

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q21

It's one thing to talk about paying the tax, but it's a whole 'nother to talk about 4 max players on one team (much less with Kelly getting paid too).

I'd definitely think about it with Cousins. Porter does a lot of nice things, but you ultimately need top tier talent if you want to win a championship and having your top players also be your highest usage guys who role players can play off of is just much easier from a roster construction standpoint. Cousins is that and could even potentially outperform a max contract, but the problem is you need him to reinvent aspects of his game to up his efficiency. Conversely, Porter isn't that and doesn't appear to have the ability to become a high usage player but he already has ideal habits to achieve elite efficiency.

It's your classic message board talking point. :wizard:

The point of this thread is to redress whether Demarcus Cousins is a cancer.

He clearly is not a player who makes teams worse.

I doubt he will be a cancer to the career of Alvin Gentry.

I DO THINK, HOWEVER THAT THE KINGS MADE A GOOD TRADE. Buddy Hield will pay off in time IMO.

YES, I'm a disabled veteran who processes differently than you do. But I think I'm on point on this ...

But we don't have that first. :(

I think they'll still find a way if that's what both Wall and Cousins want this offseason.

Noted, Sluggerface.

It's a fluid situation in NO. I'm glad you and others found my OP worth responding to, and with such well-thought posts.

Thanks for saving me the time looking it up! You're right, tontoz.

Not that Denver or Detroit are great shakes, but Houston's got winning reccord.

It would be hilarious if the Pelicans somehow end up keeping their top 3 pick this season.
