Draftees 2016 – Brown, Yabusele, Žižić, Jackson, Nader

Jordan Mickey needs to sign a long-term contract with a D-League team and just commit to being their MVP for the next couple years.

He can either be the 15th man on an NBA bench or he can be the star of the entire league and probably make more money doing it.

0% chance. He was the highest paid 2nd rounder EVER when we signed him.

Sullinger was a very solid defender during his time here by basically all major defensive metrics (DRtg, DBPM, DWS...etc). While not an athletic shot blocker, he was smart, strong, and rebounded well. His issue wasn't really producing when he was on his game. His issue was that he lacked conditioning and fitness, which generally led to injuries and his game fading as the season went on.

I wonder if we will try to sign Sully in the offseason? I still have faith there is a NBA player in there somewhere.

I think after this draft, we'll be in a position to make a talent concentration and / or future picks trade. How we make out in this draft with the lottery and our draft board will make some of our many assets expendable. Some of these are tradable assets are very valuable to a lower tier team. Their needs are the exact opposite of ours. Getting three good prospects for one very good prospect improves their average talent level and would improve ours too.

IMO, these four draftees are all developing and their trade value is improving. (I so hope DA keeps Zizic, the rebounder.)

If the two-way contracts count against cap space, then we'll be faced with the same problem. Roster space is not the issue here. It's the contracts potentially eating into cap space we're allotting for a max FA.

I can't imagine how much worse it would have been if there hadn't have been injuries that forced him into the lineup. Even when he played he gets barely any plays run for him. I think we lost about a half season's worth of development with how it all went down. If there isn't a trade it might be the same story next year too. Hopefully he doesn't let it get to him and puts in the work to keep improving but I'm sure he wishes any other team had drafted him at this point. This isn't a very talented team. Not so much that he shouldn't have gotten more minutes and focus on offense. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets traded or even that he wishes to be.

And then you really lost me, when you suggested that we would trade Brown.

This team is paying its dues, as any other team has to.
We'll get to the Championship again. But, it's a Process.

Don't worry. I think there are changes coming. A lot of changes. And I think AB is going to draw the short straw and JB is gonna take his place next year. Don't sell the kid's confidence short. I think he prefers to be in the playoffs unlike Saric or Ingram or a lot of guys. And that's gonna help his development too; minutes in the intense atmosphere that is the playoffs. I'd like to see him work on his ballhandling in the offseason just so he can be a little more confident coming off those dribble handoffs but I think you're going to start seeing him get more of those regular minutes as a starter next season. My hope is that it will be next to Hayward another great ballhandler who can absolutely set him up off those cuts off the ball. His time is coming.

Brown is going absolutely nowhere. He will play 20+ minutes next season and I'll be surprised if he's not a permanent fixture in the starting lineup by years end.

I'm going to go way out to left field for my next pick. While technically not an NBA rookie, Yabusele was the 16th pick in the draft. He played in China this season, averaging 20 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game.
Kevin, your translated stats for Yabusele had him averaging nearly 14 points and rebounds per 36 minutes as an NBA power forward. And in his debut for the Maine Red Claws last night, he had 17 points and 9 boards in just 25 minutes. And that was his first game in a month after an ankle injury ended his season in China early.
The Celtics are very bullish on him. He's a strong, super-athletic big man who can stretch the floor and plays with both great energy and feel. He's a little undersized for his position, but the comparisons to Jae Crowder (or before the draft, Larry Johnson) seem apt.
I think I'd take his upside right now over that of Hernangomez or Brogdon.

Ford: 5. Ante Zizic, Boston Celtics
I debated between Yabusele and Zizic and I know the Celtics are very high on both, as are NBA scouts for some other teams. His size, strength, toughness and skill set make Zizic a big man to watch for the Celtics' future.
If Jaylen Brown improves, the Celtics will have had a heck of a draft. And who would've thought Brown might be their third best prospect from 2016?

Just 20, Zizic could be part of Boston's rotation next season when he's scheduled to join the team.
In the longer term, he could follow in the footsteps of Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic as centers who have translated success in the Adriatic League to the NBA.

I do hope Yabusele can come over next season and hope that he works out but I do agree with Homer when he says it's gonna come down to his defense. I haven't been able to really form an opinion about him at that end because I haven't seen him play anywhere near appropriate level competition to judge it. But even if he doesn't come over until the season after next, there's no problem with that.

As for Chad Ford, don't sell yourself short. I can think of a number of posters here whose opinion I would trust over Ford. The only thing he has over us is connections to front offices but as far as judging talent, you can pretty much wipe your *** with his scouting assessments. And Homer, nor I are the only ones that feel that way.

I want Bradley gone, and smart isn't starting. And he can't be allowed to shoot on days after he shoots 15%. It's like dealing with a child. Bradley Stevens gets armed with a squirt bottle. OK, maybe that's a cat.
