So Who Predicted Correctly?
I searched to find the 2016-17 Prediction Thread. How did your's play out? Below is what I wrote:
Afraid my prediction is 38-44. Between the injuries, lesser quality shooting and lack of bench strength I fear the Hornets slip 10 games from last year and out of the playoffs. Tougher teams in the east also a factor.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

No prediction in the thread, but I definitely would have predicted playoffs. MKG just didn't have the impact I expected and the off season was a total dud in terms of adding talent. If there's any saving grace to this season, it's that the team gets another lottery pick to add to the core for the next few years.

The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
I was a *touch* pessimistic voting 33-35 wins, but not too far off. I was feeling the low end of that though, making me a bit more wrong than it might appear. I did see injuries coming, but called it for Kemba, not Cody.

Edit: Late, but I should probably add why. IMHO Hibbert is going to start too many games & there is going to be at least one major injury this year IMHO ... and my gut is that it's going to be Kemba.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
Well, I was close I guess. I said 41-41 if Cody missed a few months. He missed about a month and half worth of games. Still disappointing. Its not like we didn't compete, we just had terrible luck and couldn't win close games.

Boy, I was way off but had no idea Sessions would play hurt a long time before finally getting surgery. If you'd told me preseason that Kemba would be even more consistent and Cody would take the next step but we'd be 8 games under .500 I would have thought you were crazy.

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
I didn't post a prediction in that thread but I expected a much better season. In terms of specific predictions not sure what I was most off for - I was really hoping Roy would work out but didn't go as far as predicting he for sure would.
I think I really thought Sessions was a sure thing when we signed him. He is probably the biggest disappointment for me.

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
Definitely a weird season. Kemba an all-star, posting historic numbers, Frank and Cody look like clear quality starters, MKG plays nearly the entire season and has no injuries yet we are so much worse than last season. The bench was just that bad. Lamb didn't improve, still the same unreliable player. Marco was the Jefferson of SG's. And Sessions/Hibbert fell off a cliff. Worst case scenario too, just miss the playoffs and get one of the worst lottery picks.
I would feel much better about next offseason if we didn't waste a ton of caproom on Plumlee. We shot ourselves in the foot and are 18 million over the cap if we keep our pick. That pick better be a home run

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
If you predicted a 52-win roster would win 38 from injuries + bad luck then congrats. Cause CHA's adjusted NetRtg even with injuries indicates ~ 44 wins.

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
I voted more than 57 wins WHY CAN'T YOU GUYS BE MOAR POSITIVE LIEK ME!!!!!! Seriously guys, if you think this super team wasn't capable of going undefeated the door to the Warriors forum is right over there.
Being super serial, I thought that Sessions would be a good signing (lateral move with Lin at worst), that Batum would justify his new contract (I guess you could argue he did) and I was optimistic that MKG, Kemba, Cody, Lamb and Frank would make good progress (sorta right?). I suspected that Hibbert would be an abysmal failure but was afraid to really voice that opinion in fear of eating crow, especially after 1st game Roy was a beast. I kind of suspected that Marv wouldn't be as good as contract-year Marv but there are worse contracts for sure.
I did not see the Plumlee trade coming. I'm still kind of numb from that like a glancing blow to the bollocks.
I thought we'd make the playoffs, for sure. The East is getting tougher and tougher it seems.

CHA's 2017-18 over/under win total is gonna be wow...bad luck, injuries, small market, an outlier L%.
Guessing an initial line of 34 wins.

Not far from my prediction of 50% making and missing playoffs.
Many guys improved their game, Frank, Cody, Kemba. MKG is healthy all season. Team chemistry supposed to be better after one more year to familiar with each other's game. And the team goes from 48W to 36W(potential 38W), 10-12W drop.

Had us at 45-37 (not in this thread) most likely playing in the 4/5 series but possibly as the #6 seed.
Very disappointed but we are in good shape for next year I believe
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Excited about the Playoffs now that Durant has given other teams a fighting chance

Re: So Who Predicted Correctly?
I didn't post a prediction but I thought this team would be about where they were last year and maybe finish with a fourth seed this time. We had the same record as the three seed last year with the same starting lineup but with what was perceived as an improvement there with MKG coming back.
The Cody injury killed us the most. MKG is not what we thought he was, he's more like two seasons ago MKG. The other big factor is our bench was abbysmal. The style we play worked perfectly with Lin because his game is similar to Kemba. We always had our primary ball handler driving to the hoop or a threat from three. We had offense off the bench in the post with Big Al and we had solid three point shooting with Lee.
The core of a team that can compete for a home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs is still there imo but we need to add shot blocking, better defense and most importantly a solid backup PG who can drive to the rim and get to the FT line to wear teams down all game long.
Could we trade MKG and our pick for Lin and Lopez? Lol

Sounds about right. Everyone will have us predicted outside the playoffs, with win total in the 30s. Maybe a couple of astute analysts will factor in our positive net rating, our record w/out Cody and have us north of 40. Early prediction, assuming not much interesting happens between now and October other than at least improving backup PG, I'd have us at 45 wins for next season.
Expect a lot of negativity surrounding the Hornets this summer from national media.

Nets already have an over-rated, hyphenated 22yo defender; who incidentally can't shoot either - Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and one is enough, Lol.
Kemba/Cliff have done the alternating-years playoff before; looks like you're all set for next season then.
Aren't any analytics to support the alternating yrs playoff theory but since most "respected" analytics this season (except Wins of course) indicated a return to playoffs - it's as good as any.

I voted 51-53 in the poll. Unfortunately we did not win 51-53 games.
