I have no issues drafting a QB high, even if we keep Kirk getting some young blood to develop is not a bad thing. Kirk Will be 29 at the start of the season, he likely has 3-6 good prime years left if he does not get hurt, Draft a kid now and see what you can make of him.

Per Kevin Patra -

"Still just 27 years old, Brown is a solid run defender and good covering in space. He should be an upgrade over incumbent inside linebacker Will Compton next to Mason Foster on the interior of the Redskins D"

The Redskins are also going to host UCONN safety Obi Melifonwu, a 6’4” 217 pound safety who is a tremendous athlete. The visit was first reported by Eric Edholm of Yahoo!

Melifonwu was a long-jumper and triple-jump specialist in high school. He can press off the line of scrimmage because of his speed and frame. He can cover tight ends, an area that the Redskins have struggled with for such a long time.

Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting noted that he was down on Melifonwu entering his senior season, but is now “firmly aboard the Obi Melifonwu train.” Galko added the “sky is the limit for how high he can go.”

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report called Melifonwu an “athletic freak” and mentions that unlike others at his size, “he’s twitchy and explosive when attacking the ball in the air.”

Melifonwu is the type of player that could have some Kam Chancellor like abilities.

I remember Mike Mayock raving about him at the Senior Bowl so hopefully all of these analysts are not just hyping an athlete and instead, perhaps the Redskins wind up with a football player.

In February I saw Melifonwu listed as a draft prospect to go in the round 3-4. Can't recall where but I remember thinking the Skins might want to take him with their 4th pick at 114. Then he did well at the combine and some thought he'd go in round 2-3. Recently I've seen talk of him going at the bottom of the first round.

I'm still hoping someone slips down to the Skins at 17, but Melifonwu or one of the other free safeties would be nice in the second round.

From Mike Triplett, ESPN

According to the police report: an officer witnessed Galette assaulting a man. Officers then yelled at him to stop but he took off running and a taser was used to subdue him. Galette was taken into custody and at that time was cooperative. An officer reached by ESPN called it a very minor incident and said both charges are misdemeanors. The officer also said Galette likely wouldn't have been charged had he not run.

2017 six-round mock draft
By Chad Reuter

Redskins

R1-17-Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan

R2-49-Zach Cunningham, ILB, Vanderbilt

R3-81-Devonte Fields, OLB, Louisville

R4-114-Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma
R4-123-Erik Austell, G, Charleston Southern

R5-154-Patrick Towles, QB, Boston College

R6-201-Marquez White, CB, Florida St.
R6-209-Ashton Lampkin, CB, Oklahoma St.

I guess given this scenario he thinks the Skins take a NT & WR or C in round 7.
NT STEVIE TU'IKOLOVATU,USC would be nice but I think he maybe gone.

Less then a week to the NFL draft, reports of leaks from the redskins front office. Not sure if it's true or an attempt to disguise their real intentions.

Steve Shoup of HogHaven, Gruden likes Kelly & will not take a RB with a high pick unless it's a home run type. (Cook or McCaffrey)

Others (can't recall who) saying it will be an edge rushing type taken in the early round...

If Garret & Thomas go before 17 as expected, that leaves Barnett, Charles & McKinley.

I suppose they may consider Reddick as an OLB/ILB. I get needing a pass rush and the better ones will go in rounds 1&2. But I sure hope they address the DL too. Tired of people running over them.

My dream draft scenario for the Skins:

Skins trade QB Kirk Cousins to Cleveland for #12 & #33 picks.
Skins trade #12 to Buccaneers for #19 & #50 picks.

Draft:
1-17 CB Gareon Conley
1-19 ILB Haason Reddick
2-33 QB DeShaun Watson
2-49 FS Budda Baker
2-50 OG Dion Dawkins
3-81 DE Carlos Watkins
4-114 OC Ethan Pocic
4-123 NT Elijah Qualls
5-154 TE Bucky Hodges
6-201 WR Dede Westbrook
6-209 OLB Dylan Cole
7-220 RB Donnel Pumphrey
7-235 DE Patrick Gamble

I would love if McCaffrey fell to us but I doubt it. I'd choose Reddick over Reuben Foster even if Foster is available b/c of Foster's maturity issues. Two guys I would not draft under any circumstances: Malik McDowell & Joe Mixon. McDowell hasn't interviewed well and has questionable love for the game. Too much game film of him going through the motions. No need to go into detail on Mixon. I just get the Lawrence Phillips type of vibe from him. I'm not in love with the DL options where we draft in the 1st round and view Baker/Dawkins as better values than going DL in the 2nd. I think Qualls is the best true NT in the draft anyways. I love DeShaun Watson and would possibly try to trade up from #33 if I got intel a team would select him in the 1st round - I think there's a better chance that Mahomes goes in the 1st tho.

If McCloughan was still here, it would be a possibility. With SM gone, expect the most generic, cookie cutter draft possible...although I heard they were using SM's draft board. Hilarious if true...if so, they have a built in scapegoat if this draft ends up being a bust.
