Id go with IT4 him carrying Boson to potentially the #1 seed and 50+ games while averaging 29pts/6ast on 62.7%TS seals it for me.
Especially since he's the only one on the team to create

I do, I think it's interesting to see how the rest stack up against each other. I know ultimately in terms of this season it doesn't matter, but the top 5-7 players will have nice seasons to add to the resume of their career.

After watching all the shows today, it's pretty clear that this race is over.
Nobody is really supporting Harden anymore. Russ will win handily.
I'd still go with Harden though.

Nobody got ever close to that scoring figure in the last two decades. he led the team to the 7th seed in the west and nearly eliminated suns in the first round. Was a phenomenal season by kobe.
Had a far better individual season than Nash who won MVP. Nash's team won 9 more games.
That first MVP was real iffy for Nash. Real iffy.
Nash is my favourite player ever and I think both his MVP's are iffy. But the 2nd was more iffy than the first IMO. I wouldn't have given the first one to Shaq and the 2nd to either Bron or Kobe.

I've never thought about someone being 5th on my MVP list. There are usually only 2 or 3 with a realistic possibility.

Windhorst (MVP voter) today (Monday, April 10, 2017) on ESPN -- I've changed my MVP vote from Kawhi Leonard to Russell Westbrook
Thought he made a pretty good point on the minutes played/stat padding thing.

I can't believe people have the audacity to give Mike D credit for Harden's scoring numbers. He's averaging .3 more points than last year.

I don't understand why people never mention Dirk in these conversations. His 04/05 and 05/06 seasons are very good stats wise and his teams won 58 games and 60 games respectively.

Dirk was up there too, I just wouldn't have given him my MVP vote.

A pretty nice write-up of Harden's season.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-case-for-james-harden-mvp/?addata=espn:nba:index
It goes against a lot of prevailing viewpoints, but it backs up its claims.

I don't understand, aside from an arbitrary "triple double" standard, how Harden doesn't win easily. Same ppg, much better apg, slightly worse rpg (but they are both PG), and much better FG%. More wins on his team. Working with a new coach and new players he brought into the system. OKC isn't that terrible talentwise (oladipo, adams, kanter aren't bad) and Harden has been running pick and roll with Montrel Hazrl (cba to look up his name's speling).
Harden has already been denied once.

There are legit arguments for 5 guys - and the main issue IMO is that any argument Harden has over RW, to some degree LBJ, Curry and Kawhi have over Harden.
If the group of 5, Harden has the worst RPM, which has varying degrees of importance to different people. I ranked them on 6 different criteria and came up with Curry and LBJ as co MVPs. Using RPM, team record, raw stats, and a few efficiency stats.
That tells me that narrative has benefited both Harden and Westbrook for people to perceive this as a two man race

You could easily re-phrase this as "Houston isn't that terrible talent wise (Anderson, Gordon, Ariza, Capela) and Westbrook has been feeding Andre Roberson". That is a selective way of looking at both teams.
Whether it's fair or not, I think the enormous difference between Houston and OKC when the two players sit will swing the vote, and in turn strengthen D'Antoni's case for COTY.
OKC's inability to put teams away means Westbrook has had far more opportunities to perform in clutch situations too (where he has been insane), which is another thing that can swing voters. The Orlando, Dallas and now Denver games in the past fortnight will stick in minds. Harden's clutch stats are not even in the same suburb, however Houston have blown a lot of teams out which removes the clutch time altogether.

Let me see if I understand.
Harden scoring 2.6 ppg less than Westbrook = "same ppg"
Harden with 2.6 rpg less than Westbrook = "slightly worse rpg"
Harden with 0.8 apg more than Westbrook = "much better apg"
Is this some kind of new math?

Same logic I saw used couple days ago when RWB had the 50pt triple double.
Earlier in season..."Harden only player in history to have two 50 pt triple doubles in same season"...
After that RWB 50 pt triple double, I saw someone say how the same night Harden had 35 pt triple double and "a triple double is a triple double"...
literally laughed out loud...

In what could possibly be one of the closest races for MVP ever I am very curious what us (the NBA fans) would vote as the 2016/2017 NBA MVP.
1st place vote = 10 points 2nd place vote = 7 3rd place vote = 5 4th place vote = 3 5th place vote = 1
Vote here: https://goo.gl/forms/sKZm4jSf3bsbw1eC3
We allready accumulated roughly 9k votes, obviously we want as many fans to vote as possible.
